latest Grandma update (quite brief)

She's exceptionally well

My 16-yr-old niece, CB, wanted Grandma's 1978 Cadillac El Dorado -- pale yellow with white leather interior & naugahyde half-top (those poor naugas). Poor niece, too -- the paternal unit had it towed for reconditioning & sale

So far my sisters have found over $5,000 stashed in various places: under towels, under furniture in the garage, between cans in the pantry, under beds, between sheets, under the bathroom sink . . . . the paternal unit has told them he thinks they ought to split the money. He doesn't know how much there is

CB adopted Grandma's cat, a fluffy ginger tabby whom she promptly named (are you ready?) Ginger. CB said she's fat -- that looks like a basketball

He's got G'ma's POA. She's got enough (as we've learned in the last several weeks) to pay for her care if she lives to be about 110.

My dad is a good man. Honorable in his business, doesn't break the law (I don't think), has friends . . . . <edit: all right, I admit, I was assuming he has friends>

He thinks I'm going to hell. He's a fundamentalist evangelical Christian. He sent me a letter in his Christmas card years ago, the Christmas after I came out to him. It read in part: "I am not a homophobe. I am not afraid of homsexuals, I am afraid for them. I believe that God created everything and he has the right to destroy his creatures who don't do what he wants."

When my mother-in-law passed away, we found over $8000.00 in 100's and 50's all over her room. She lived with her daughter and hid it in places like her panties, in shoes, in luggage. We were all amazed.
