A question for longtime 49ers fans...
Edited on Tue Jun-24-08 10:53 AM by JonathanChance
What was the attitude of the 49ers fans at the time of Joe Montana's retirement? Was there a lot of pessimism about Steve Young's ability to fill Joe's shoes as there currently is in Green Bay Regarding Aaron Rodgers?

1. Young took over for Montana when he got injured
and played so well that when Montana was recovered a year later, they didn't want him, and he went to Kansas City. So it was a different situation.

2. I'm not a 49ers fan, but....
...if I recall correctly, Steve Young had already established himself as being a worthy successor by the time Montana left the team (and don't forget, Montana went on to play several seasons with the Chiefs after that).

Now, after Marino left the Dolphins, that's another story altogether.
