Did I just sexually harrass my new boss?
I just told my new boss that he reminds me of my nephew (who's 13 today!). He asked how, and I said, "because my nephew's cute." I just barely stopped the "too" from slipping out. But he's cute in the same way my nephew is cute. I can't explain it. They're just similarly cute.

Did I just sexually harrass my new boss? :scared:

1. Only if your boss found it offensive.
If not, you're OK. :-)

12. that wont help
The only thing you got going is the fact you're a woman and he's a man..

A straight married catholic guy saying a lesbian woman is cute would be considered harrassment..

A gay Man calling a straight married catholic woman cute would be harrassment...

such is the feminist logic

18. the logic
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 04:56 PM by Kamika
Is that they assume all men are evil, and want to put women down, just because they are men, and women aren't evil.

So when a woman says a guy is cute it's "ok" but since men are "evil" if they say a woman is cute it's harrasment, since men are evil and only said the woman is cute since he wants to degrade her etc

Kamika, you've had your brain washed by the Right-wing about what feminism really means.

And stop lumping "feminists" into one big monolithic entity and claiming to know how we all think.

28. Eh, she's right
Go ahead... ask your male coworkers what would happen if they said a female coworker was "cute". It's a different set of rules. So much for treating people equally

Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 05:20 PM by VelmaD
nothing. Calling a female co-worker "cute" is not sexual harassment. I know this because I completed my agency's annual sexual harassment training not 2 weeks ago. Hell, I've been told I looked cute by a co-worker within the last month.

Find me a link to ONE case where someone was found guilty of sexual harassment for calling a female co-worker "cute". Just one.

This is all right-wing nonsense put out into the medie as a means of minimizing the support for women and men who are victims of sexual harassment.

33. my what a bullshit interpretation of the law
And, yes, women can harrass men in the workplace through the creation of a hostile work environment in general or by specific acts.

But, thanks for the "right wing talking point" version of the law!

if you had said he reminded you of your nephew because he has the same kind of rock-hard ass you nephew the Chippendales stripper has, then your might be in trouble.

9. Does he know how old your nephew is?
I um, insulted the intern who was assigned to me while I was in the hospital. Something about him not looking that old, like he still played with Legos. :0 I can blame it all on the morphine, though. :)

10. No, you didn't...
There's not a male boss in the country...heck, maybe in the WORLD:eyes: ...who wouldn't take that as a compliment, and NOT as a "proposition"!:D

Now, maybe if you'd told him he had a "cute tush" or something like that, he might be taken aback (well, MAYBE he would!:eyes: ), but not what you said in comparing him to your nephew. Probably the most he'd do is ask to see a picture of your nephew!

B-)

11. No.
Your actions didn't create a hostile work environment, nor did you proposition him with a quid-pro-quo situation.
Remember, the sexual harassment statute in Title XII of the Civil rights act of 1964 is a discrimination statute, not a free speech statute.
If only corporate HR drones would get that!

There. My 100th post.

13. A friend of mine just did the same thing... sort of...
She's a museum docent (in her 70's), and the young man (a newly hired curator)is 30-ish. When introduced, she said, "Well, aren't you just a refreshing piece of eye candy!"

Boy, she got called into the HR office and summarily scolded. The young man, however, had flowers delivered to my friend at the museum.

35. It's harassment if the person finds it intimidating
if they don't find it intimidating or demeaning, it isn't harassment. That's one of the reasons it's so hard to define; it's almost completely subjective.

But I have *never* heard of a case of sexual harassment being successfully prosecuted because someone called a co-worker "cute." Puh-leeze. Anita frigging HILL couldn't win her case!
