I bought a sari today
Mr. DTBK's cousin sews and is "adjusting" the sari blouse for me - I think they make those for anorexic teenage girls. I'll be wearing it to an Indian wedding in Wichita on July 5th. I'll have someone take pictures of me in it to post (if anyone cares).

This is probably a good copycat opportunity if anyone's interested...

2. I will when I get it back after alterations
Thanks! This one is an unusual shade of blue with lots of gold embroidery and sequins. Everyone tells me how nice I will look in it because I'm so "tall" (5'6", but taller than most of the Pakistani and Indian women I know). I have two other saris, a white one with silver embroidery and a brownish one with gold embroidery, but I've gained some weight since I wore those and the blouses don't fit anymore - plus I wanted a fancier one for the wedding.

Think they look great. Post a pic!

Got a friend to buy one. She did then turned to me and said "How am I supposed to put this damn thing on?"

Khash.

5. I think the blouse issue is common.
I recently purchased my first sari and I'm having to have the blouse adjusted too.
After talking to some of my Indian friends about it, that's a common issue.

I bet it looks gorgeous!

6. I still don't have the nerve to buy one
I don't know how rather large me would look in a sari. But my Pakistani friend's parents just bought a tailoring shop in Sharjah, and I've been promised discounted prices on all the stuff I have sewn there, so maybe sometime in the future I will buy one.

9. They are beautiful.
However I would have a problem with the bare tummy. Especially since mine is bigger than it used to be.

I have bought a couple of salwar kameez from an Indian sari store. That's the knee length dress with the long scarf and the trousers under it.

I also have a tiered skirt with a blouse I got at a sari store. They are beautiful. I shortened the skirt and took the second tier out and pieced it into the first tier, because it wasn't wide enough at the waist.
