2. haha
I remember when that happened, I was living in LA and at the time it was a pretty big deal that a fucking plane had ran off the runway towards a gas station, but now the first thing I saw was those gas prices.

Ooh, now that you said LA, Google helped me... is this the story of that picture?

4. aye
It is a picture of the very same incident. A quick percentage change calculation shows that in the time since the accident gas prices have gone up around 170%

Bill Maher said:

"The gas thing is not all {Bush's} fault. But he is an oilman and somehow it quadrupled in price while he was in office. I mean, if we had Colonel Sanders as president and the price of chicken went up three times, wouldn't you wonder?"

6. That's the same time that Bush was criticizing Clinton/Gore for high gas prices.
You remember? "They have no energy policy. We will."

7. Indeed. Here's a transcript from July 2000
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0007/26/ip.00.html

CROWLEY: And on charges that Cheney's oil-field service company and Bush's background in the oil business make this ticket a gusher for big oil companies...

CHENEY: And I'm very proud of what I did at Halliburton and the people of Halliburton are very proud of what they've accomplished. This is jobs, this is energy to run our economy. It's an absolutely vital part of the global economy, and I frankly don't feel any need to apologize for the way I've spent my time over the last five years as the CEO and chairman of a major American corporation.

BUSH: This is also an attempt to divert attention away from the fact they have no energy policy.

That's what's known as foreshadowing. And black humour.

17. Still flooding. I JUST drove near downtown Pewaukee.
Everything is closed near the downtown... dozens of homes and businesses wrecked. :(

I am actually right this second heading to downtown Delafield. I'll report back.

Thanks for asking...

20. Delafield is in good shape on Nagawicka. On Pewaukee Lake not as well.
Downtown Delafield looks surprisingly good. They opened the dams the other day and sadly now Summit is hurting as a result.

Downtown Pewaukee is hurting bad and will be for a while. Here are a few pics I snapped. I couldn't get real close but the whole downtown is under. This is on the outer area where it's nowhere as deep as closer to lake. The National Guard was there:

By boat launch in Delafield on Pewaukee Lake (across from Nagawicka Golf Course):

21. I just got off the phone with my aunt
They have about 3 inches of water in their basement. They have 5 sump pumps running. But their house is still there. They are out of town and have someone checking in on the house every day.

22. I saw a LOT of people with stuff on the curb from basement flooding.
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 07:33 PM by PeaceNikki
Another very sad sight was the vast number of local farmers whose fields/crops were under water and ruined. :(

Oh, and 94 West is STILL closed for about 8 miles from Delafield to Jefferson due to the Bark River.

24. No, it's in good shape,
The park across the street from St. John's Military Acadamy is closed under water, but the road is safe. I took 83 to Milwaukee St to Genesee St. north and it's all good. Feingold is holding his Waukesha County listening session up the road from them next Saturday! :bounce: I am gonna totally ask him to marry me!

westbound from Hwy 83 in Delafield to Jefferson. And I was wrong, it's not the Bark River, it's the Crawfish River.

18. I went to my mom's and we were talking about this. She and my dad keep a fuel journal.
We looked in some old one and in 2002 they were paying 1.24-1.39 gallon in the midwest. This image was from Burbank in 2000 near the airport so it was likely the highest (or near highest) in the country.

Shocking, huh?

there was a gas station on Rt. 1 in CT that had gas for 99 cents/gal. Don't remember which year, maybe 1999 or early 2000. How far it has gone up in such a short time.
