1. Other: Not what I want to hear at 140db at 2am when I'm trying to sleep.
The reason rap has such a bad rep IMHO is that 9 times out of 10 (or possibly even a higher percentage) if some douchebag is breaking bottles, setting off fireworks, screaming at the top of their lungs at their girlfriend/boyfriend, blasting music far too loud, generating huge amounts of stinky trash that sit on the sidewalk or other horrible things, usually at 2 am, the odds are their craptastic activities are accompanied by blasting rap music, and usually rap music of the lowest quality.

6. Yup.
Now my neighbors who are 'oldsters' who cranked that stuff at 2am instead go to bed, and play it at moderate volumes only on Saturdays.

It'll be interesting to see what the next form of music to be considered crap because the large preponderance of young idiots who are listening to it at annoying volumes.

(For the record; I ALWAYS respected my neighbors right to sleep, even when I myself was a young hooligan. Of course, I loved to sleep myself!)

2. Aesthetics have nothing to do with it...
a lot of rap is NOT music. It is poetry with rhythm. There's plenty that uses music or has enough incorporated into it that I'd call it music. But that has nothing to do with whether I like it or not. That has to do with whether it's... um... music, or not.

9. No, Snoop Dogg, as amusing as he is, is awful.
And most of any genre is crap if you look at the mainstream of it.

10. Actually, I was going to say exactly that, most of ANY genre sucks.
I do enjoy Snoop, though. Whether it's really "gangsta" or not, I don't know or care.

14. Music is what the listener wants it to be.

They sound of a 427 Cobra accelerating out of a turn at Laguna Seca is music to my ears.

I don't have Rap on my iPod, but my kids listen to it so I get it on the rebound . Some I can listen to, some I can't, It's all music, just not all to my taste.
