Witchhunter Robin. Watching that now.

The Ghost in the shell series is one I have been trying to catch. We have an anime music vid that everyone keeps suggesting is made from GitS the series. Finally get a chance to see it.

Oh and I have heard that Cartoon Network picked up One Piece. This has been the biggest anime hit in Japan recently. My avatar is the leader of the pirate crew Monkey D. Luffy.

3. Anime sucks. They need to replace all of that with REAL cartoons.
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 09:23 AM by northwest
This past fall, Adult Swim made the mistake of having like 80 percent of its programming Anime. They were saturating the schedule with shitty Anime. People were probably outraged, and that's probably why they decided to put normal cartoons on again.

I'm sorry, but I fucking HATE Anime. My brother absolutely LOVES it. That's probably one reason.

5. Um, did Ranma beat you up at school or something
I can understand not liking anime or something but this level of hostility is something else. What exactly is crappy about anime?

Style? Sorry but anime typically far outclassed western style. We simply do not have as many studios trying new things. We have a few animation houses churning out safe programs.

Plot? The plot development of most western animation borders on brain damaged. The diversity found within the depth of anime is astounding. The quality of much out there makes standard network programming appear to be the stuff of chimpanzeses. Anime is written on the idea of a continuing story. Unlike western programming which is written on the idea of creating a marketable franchise. In the west each and every story line must end by the close of the 1/2 hour. Then the galactic reset button gets hit and everything goes back to position zero. Anime, characters die. Things change. It is dynamic.

It may well be that you have been exposed to some bad anime and base all your concepts on that. Anime is far more than even what limited examples Cartoon Network has managed to bring over. The depth and quality outpace the standard fair from the west on a regular basis. I would much rather spend time watching a series that asks philosophical questions like Trigun than lose IQ points watching drivel like Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

4. They need to
BRING BACK ZIM!! :bounce:

I never understood why it was on Nickelodeon in the first place...it's much more dark and twisted than their standard fare.

6. Zim was an accident
Similar to Ren and Stimpy. Nick/MTV tossed some money at an adult comic artist to see what he would come up with. Zim rocked in ways that frightened the advertisers. Great series but in the world of marketting he had to die.

7. lucky you
WHR and Ghost in the Shell SAO on TV... I wish a local network would licence those. After a boom last year, there are hardly any good series this season.

Not to be arrogant (Japanese in western productions is probably worse), but one of the things I've never understood, is the poor spelling of western words in animes (Engrish, Gelman and Flench ). Not in cheap productions, but in high-profile series (like Gundam Seed), where one would expect that they hire someone actually fluent in the scenery language .
