Tomorrow, and Friday, I will be a Crew Chief for the first time ever
and I'm kinda nervous for it. I've been on this one job for months now (and will be until snow arrives... and then again next spring) and know it like the back of my hand. I'm also the boss on it, and make all the decisions, and even consult the contractors on what they should be doing. That being said, I've never, ever, been the book keeper (the Crew Chief's main job aside from being the boss). The Chief I've been working with for weeks (who is almost incompetent, and at times mentally challenged) almost fainted our first day together, so I took over. He keeps the book, and I tell him what to write down, and what to do. He's been doing this for years but at some point about two years ago, he just had a mental collapse and decided he couldn't do it anymore.

As I've stated, I know what I'm doing, and what needs to be kept for records, but I've never done the booking myself. Thinking about it, and typing it out, makes me realize how stupid that sounds to be nervous, but I am.

I'll also miss my chief as he had the most impeccable paint-writing I've ever seen (I'm terrible at it - either illegible, or 12" high letters/numbers). I started painting today to practice, and was still terrible at it.

Yeah, so I'm getting promoted, sans-raise, so the next two days may be interesting. :o

1. Congrats on the new responsibility.
Raise or not, everything goes on a resume if needed.

3. Oh, I know. I'm excited for it
Even though I've been the boss for some time now, actually having the title is something I wasn't expecting. I'm sure (hope) I'll do fine keeping the book, but I'm just jittery about it pre-actually doing it.

And thank you. Much. :hi:

4. You need a secretary!
One who is good with numbers and concepts. One who wears boy shorts and tank tops and pink toenail polish. Someone who loves you.

You should stop at the Labor Pool and get one.

12. Thanks
:toast:

I'm actually a great boss; not in the the boss everyone loves (though I'm just as funny, outgoing, and lovable in real life) but in the boss who owns the project, and lays down the law with everyone involved - not in a frightful way, but in a leave-no-doubt that I'll lead the way on this, and I'll be checking everyone's work, so bring your best.

7. Sans raise??
That kinda sux, sorry you might have been telling this story over time and I haven't followed it.

But it sounds to me like you have perfectly normal level of anticipation that can involved a bit of nervousness, but it also sounds like you will do fine, in fact if you didn't question yourself a bit then would be the time for concern, because you have a normal amount of concern you'll be sure to keep check on yourself and apply your talents well.

Go at it man and have fun and do well like I'm sure you will.

13. Eh, my wage has been stagnant for just over 2 years
I'd love a raise, but I'm tickled right now for the resume-builder. A year (plus a few months or so) ago, I estimated I was being underpaid $4.25/hr for what I was then doing for my paycheck. I was still fine at that as I was soaring, learning, and gaining invaluable confidence. Then, the business started to die.... and then it died. I'm one of the 10 that survived the massive layoff, so that's my current justification... however, I haven't done the tasks I used to do (when I did my estimate of what I'm worth) in a little under a year, so I may even be overpaid right now for what I do. :P

Long story short: this is a good thing for me looking forward, so I'm ecstatic (if nervous). And thank you so much. I'm gonna try. :hi:

17. congratulations!
It seems that the worst part of taking on new responsibilities is worrying about it before you start doing it. Once you get into it, you don't even realize anything is different.

Best of luck on the new job-- I'm sure you'll kick ass at it.
