My new refrigerator was delivered today ..it is gorgeous
I sprung for a French Door bottom freezer model with water only through the door. I LOVE it. For one thing it is white..my old one was harvest gold and 32 years old. It was only 18 cubic feet side by side; the new one is 25 cubic feet.

I decided I did not need ice through the door because I don't really need that and you lose a lot of refrigerator space. There is an icemaker but it is just in the freezer and very handy; not to mention it is a good bit cheaper to not have the ice dispenser

It was actually ordered during the Texas Tax Free Energy Star weekend so I saved about $175 on taxes, plus it was marked down about $300 too.

It is going to be nice to have all the produce and deli stuff at waist height and in see through bins too.

we had recently acquired a new dishwasher because the old one died. I love it too. I have not had such clean dishes in a long long time.

oh both appliances are from the House of Kenmore

1. My next refrigerator will definitely have
the freezer on the bottom! It's nice to have the produce where you can see what's in there!

2. I am just going to love this. Just like I love my frontloading washer which is
now 5 years old.

I am practically a missionary for the front loading washing machine

3. I work at a house that has a "2 drawer dishwasher."
Have you seen them? They're right on top of each other and make so much sense! They're great if you have a smaller family.

13. Check with your utility.
The programs often run out of money later in the year, so you'll want to apply right away if you qualify.

17. that's an IRS thing, tax credits on your Federal Income Taxes
I will look it up on their site.

I did not pay any sales tax on the refrigerator because we had a Tax Free Holiday on Energy Star appliances over Memorial Day weekend.

4. It sounds really pretty.
When we bought ours, I begged for a bottom freezer but they were really high priced. I hate my side by side now.

6. well this was more expensive, but it does meet my needs so much better
than a side by side.

Maybe if you sell out and move to Texas you can get one then?

Do you really think you might do that?

8. I am thinking of it.
Memories here haunt me almost too much. It is just about killing me here. When I go to visit my relatives in TX (a place MrG and I never had been) the relief is so welcome. The houses are nicely priced, the weather would help with my RA, and taxes are pretty much the same as up here. I noticed a few warnings about property taxes and my cousin in law's taxes are actually a bit cheaper than I pay up here and his lot is much larger than mine here. Yes, I'm definitely thinking of a change. I just have to get the house here together to sell. I've basically let it all go. And it shows.

10. well, keep us informed, chat up with the Texas forum folks
if you let them know you are going to be down there again, they will get a meetup together I am sure.

You could probably either get a whole lot more house for the money at same price you sell for, OR have a really really good down payment on the next house OR buy house of lesser value with even better down payment. sounds good to me.

They say Fort Worth property taxes are highest in the state but I think they may be talking about the percentage rate. I think our homes appraise lower than Harris County,so even with the higher percentage, the actual $$ amt may be less for equivalent type house; plus we don't have the MUD and LID taxes and Texas gives a generous homestead exemption too.

Have you checked out San Antonio? I love San Antonio.

11. I did, but I love the Woods of NW Houston.
We had a wonderful time in San Antonio and I have family there as well. I am just closer with my in laws. Crazy eh? They've been the most supportive and it hurts that they are so far away. I am lucky in that we had planned for the future. All the jokes about my husband being "a stodgy old man" for planning at the age of 25 aren't so funny anymore. I am lucky that I can actually look at my options. Most people, here in MI, have no options right now.

12. I know that. I was working in a call center for a large national lender
and some of my worst cases were in Michigan.

I worked in Escrow, and I was getting calls from homeowners who had not previously had taxes paid from an escrow account who now couldn't pay their taxes and wanted to get them built into the monthly payment to us.
They were behind in payments, taxes had gone up, and of course cost of heating homes etc and cost of gas.

I talked to a lot of very frantic people all over the country but Michigan was pretty bad.

IT was getting pretty depressing.

If it is your in-laws, then your kids will have their grandparents close by? That is great.

14. No. His cousin and his cousin's wife.
This cousin was like a brother to him and we spent a good deal of time together with our kids. BabyG misses them. My father in law has been dead for 8 years (Father's Day, 2000) and my mother in law is here...but not, if you get what I mean. My father and mother are here but I don't really see my mother and my father just wants me to do what will help. Tough decisions.

15. sweeeeet!
i totally understand because i got a new fridge last friday myself! woo hoo! :woohoo: my old one (a GE) was relatively new, but was a total LEMON! i think i spent more than the item cost to fix it several times. never again GE!!! this time, i went for a mid-size, white, top freezer by whirlpool from costco (i love costco). the delivery man told me that he sells more whirlpool than anything else and that ge's are crap.

give thanks.

16. my opinion of GE is very low. I bought a GE washer and dryer
several years go, and they sucked. I actually rejoiced when the washer died.

that was when I got the frontloader.

PS I think my refrigerator is made by Whirlpool for Kenmore

18. I have the black french door too
Got the water & ice in the door and love the deli drawer that goes full width! I about freaked though because after I bought it and gave away my side by side I measured and was afraid they couldn't get it in my kitchen. LOL! Had to bring it around back and take the back door off but we barely got it in. I guess it will go with the house if I ever move.

We're big on ice water and I think it saves energy by not opening up the freezer every time we want a glass of ice water, but it does take up room. I have a small chest freezer out on the back deck so plenty of freezer space. Enjoy!!!
