by Neil Young come to mind at first thought:
Barstool Blues
and
Drive Back

At least I listened to them when I went through an Angry period.

Or, maybe Baby Bitch by Ween.

Maybe you were looking for something beyond relationship anger?

8. Ah, what I called FTWM back in my younger days....
Edited on Thu Feb-19-04 08:07 PM by boxster
FTWM: "Fuck The World" Music.

It doesn't quite fit anger and resentment, but "Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth was always a pissed-off-mood favorite of mine.

My anger/resentment favorite might be (a song no one's probably ever heard of): "Don't Get Mad, Get Even" by Helix.

28. Female rockers do angry well....
One of my recent angry music favorites is "I Love Myself Today" by Bif Naked. Even if the lead singer is a freak.

Stuff by her predecessors....

"Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett.

Anything angry by Pat Benatar - "Promises in the Dark", "Little Too Late", particularly "All Fired Up".

Can't tell I was an 80's child, can ya?

The Aerosmith cover of the Beatles' "I'm Down" can get me going.

Soul Asylum's "I Will Still Be Laughing" is good resentment music.

I could go on and on. I have dozens of them.

I've spent way too much time listening to angry music!

FOUNTAIN AND FAIRFAX
by Greg Dulli

Angel, I'm sober,
I got off that stuff
Just like you asked me to.
Angel, come closer,
So the stink of your lies
Sinks into my memory.

She said "baby, forever;
But I don't like to be alone,
So don't stay away too long."
Baby, forever.
Well, it's Tuesday now.
I hear him breathing inside of her.

Let me drink,
Let me tie off.
I'm really slobbering now.
Let it stink,
Let it dry up, it's impossible.
How?

Angel, forever,
Don't you promise me what
You cannot deliver.
Angel, together,
I'll be waiting for you
On Fountain and Fairfax.

Let me drink,
Let me tie off.
I'm really slobbering now.
Let it stink,
Let it dry up, it's impossible.
How?

102. To be fair, he does seem to hate himself even more.
Not that that makes him any LESS of a misogynist, but it does explain some things.

From what I've heard from people in the know, his attitudes have mellowed quite a bit since he's been in therapy.

by the Sisters of Mercy is a good one.

Edit: A snippet of the lyrics (Mods: the curse words are in the lyrics, so it's not my fault!):

another black hole in the killing zone
a little more mad in the methedrome
one blinding flash of sense
just like the president's
well I don't mind
out of my mind
blizzard king, bring it on home

it's a small world and it smells bad
I'd buy another if I had
back what I paid
for another motherfucker in a motorcade

34. Never Again
By Nickelback

Father's a name you haven't earned yet
You're just a child with a temper
Haven't you heard "don't hit a lady"
Kickin' your ass would be a pleasure

He's drunk again, it's time to fight
Same old shit, just on a different night
She grabs the gun, she's had enough
Tonight she'll find out how fuckin' tough is this man
Pulls the trigger fast as she can... never again

Seen it before but not like this
Been there before but not like this
Never before have I ever seen it this bad
She's just a woman... never again

39. Scarlover
By Maria McKee. Creepy!

Been over this a hundred times we've talked it to its black end It begins again and again there's nothing we can say My brain has derailed my hands are benailed You fall across my body like a death shroud Your wound was plain like mine no ragged edges well defined We grew to war like a bloom reaching toward the light It felt so brutal so transdermal so alive felt so alive felt so alive Hear the sound the sick sound of us clicking feel the skin between us thicker, thickening As the first cut relieves believe me I'm a scarlover too and I'm full of scars like you Scarlover my scarlover Ugly inside of me taught me of beauty I wouldn't trade that work of art For all the silk of perfect skin I wear it well like the colors of a tribe of survivors You dressed my up so fine my painful, truthful boy With bold strokes and rape of soul you were dazzling matchless a legend in your field And you thought you could love me just a little and I used you to test my aim and precision I was good, so good I was close to perfection but you turned the blade on me And I loved it I wonder where you are

42. Voyeur of Utter Destruction (as Beauty)
Edited on Thu Feb-19-04 08:54 PM by Ramsey
by David Bowie. (Hmm, I am starting to realize I really get into songs about anger and resentment!)

I shake
And stare at the sun
Till my eyes burn
I shake
At the mothers brutal vermin
I shake
And stare at the watery moon
With the same desire
As the sober Philistine
I shake
Turn and turn again

Worm, the pain and blade
Turn and turn again
The screw
Is a tightening Atrocity

I shake
For the reeking flesh
Is as romantic as hell
The need
To have seen it all
The Voyeur of Utter Destruction
As beauty
I shake

Research has pierced
All extremes of my sex
Call it a day
Call it a day
Needle point life
Blinds the will to be next
Call it a day

Or, Idiot Son of an Asshole.

http://www.punkvoter.com/anim/anim-idiot.html?url=BushFlash.com&imageField.x=0&imageField.y=20

Guerrilla Radio:
Transmission third world war third round
A decade of the weapon of sound above ground
Ain't no shelter if you're looking for shade
I lick shots at the brutal charade
As tha polls close like a casket
On truth devoured
A silent play on the shadow of power
A spectacle monopolized
The camera's eye on choice disguised
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?
A spectacle monopolized
They hold the reins and stole your eyes
The fistagons bullets and bombs
Who stuff the banks
Who staff the party ranks
More for Gore or the son of a drug lord
None of the above fuck it cut the cord

Lights out guerrilla radio
Turn that shit up

Contact I highjacked the frequencies
Blockin' the beltway
Move on DC
Way past the days of bombin' mc's
Sound off Mumia guan be free
Who gottem yo check the federal file
All you pen devils know the trial was vile
An army of pigs try to silence my style
Off em all out that box it's my radio dial

Lights out guerrilla radio
Turn that shit up

It has to start somewhere
It has to start sometime
What better place than here
What better time than now
All hell can't stop us now

27. Rock the Nation....Michael Franti and Spearhead
Rock The Nation
(Lyrics: M. Franti, Radio(Active)/Music: M.Franti, C.Young)
From: Stay Human

We livin' in a mean time and an aggressive time
a painful time, a time where cynicism rots to the vine
in a time where violence blocks the summer shine
lifetimes, go by in a flash
in search for love, in search for cash
everybody wanna be some fat tycoon
everybode wanna be on a tropic honeymoon
nobody wanna sing a little bit out of tune
or be the backbone of a rebel platoon
it's too soon to step out of line
you might get laughed at you might get fined
but do you feel me when I say I feel pain everyday
when I see the way my friends gotta slave
and never get ahead of bills they gotta pay
no way no way!
some make a living doing killilng Colombian penicillin
some are willing to play the villain they just chillin'
to pass the time, pass the information
or pass the wine
pass the buck or pass the baton
but you can't pass the police or the pentagon
the I.R.S. or the upper echelon
I think it's time to make a move on the contradiction

(chorus)
Bom-Bom, rock the nation
take over television and radio station

Bom-Bom the truth shall come
give the corporation some complication!

This is the dawning of our time I say it one more time
to emphasize the meaning of my rhyme
to rise above all the dirt and grime
add the right spice at the right time
fuck the constitution
are we part of the solution or are we part of the pollution
sittin' by and wonderin' why,
things ain't the way we like to find them to be, to be
for you and for me the people over there and the ones in between
check our habitation are we a peace lovin' nation
peace lovin' nation
I have a reasonable doubt I think I'll just spell it out
there's no need to scream or to shout
the N.R.A. just bought a man's soul
then he jumps up and shouts gun control
the government says that killin's a sin
unless you kill a murderer with a lethal syringe
so I ask again "are we peace lover's then"
some of them slang guns when they six years old
some of them end up in some six foot hole
this whole damn place seems to, lost control
so I raise my voice before I lose my soul
(chorus)

This is the way I'll express my feelings
vibe revealed and revolved spinnin on a record y'all
try to confiscate take what I communicate with
it's aincient gift of the lip steady creating
activating passin vocal vibrations to the blind plus the seeing
human doesn't mean just being
be coming don't believe it just belife it
belongings or beloved rehearse it or recite it
while shining drop your guns and move your tongues
battle motivation in no time lyrics come
sometimes fun others run their mouth or away
my mind co beaming like an early sunray
one day we'll get the picture and all combine
less the talking bout mines is mine and become one mind
every piece of the puzzle has its place
to build the piece of the puzzle called the human race

taking it long enough we crush the formal journalistic
dyslexic critters talk backwards to rap words
I'm sure raising my hands with questions and demands
statements and a plan with a map of the land
(chorus)

76. Intensely true...
but I'm not familiar. It must be rap which I don't listen to but from what I read, WOW. I'll have to check it out. My anger and resentment song towards the current misadministration is Another Postcard by Bare Naked Ladies, it's silly but in general, I like songs that make me laugh not get angrier.

38. Christine Lavin's "Victim/Volunteer"
Victim/Volunteer
© 1990 Christine Lavin

He thinks of himself as a victim of love
He's not - He's a volunteer
He has consistently fallen for all the wrong women
Year after year after year
And now he blames every woman who has ever kissed him
Told him that she loved him and later dismissed him
And now he thinks he's a walking victim
He's not - He's a volunteer

She thinks of herself as a victim of circumstance
When she's a volunteer
She has placed her life in the hands of every man
Fool enough to come near
And now she blames anyone who she thinks has used her
Emotionally, or mentally abused her
She's not a victim running from a persecutor
No - She's a volunteer

And he thinks of himself as a victim of fate
When he just volunteers
He has invested his money in well bred astrologers
Healers, Psychic Seers
And now he blames every tilted constellation
Or every negative vibration
He's not a victim of UFO infestation
He's a volunteer

Oh pick the numbers
Shake the sticks
Read the tea leaves
Light the wicks
Point the finger
Pass the buck
Blame it all on lady luck

Do you think of yourself as a victim?
Or do you volunteer?
Do you let somebody else call all of your shots?
Do you cower in the corner in fear?

Or do you follow because it is easy to do?
Do you fool with modern high tech voodoo?
Too bad if you're a victim or whatever you do?
Don't volunteer

Or do you follow because it is easy to do?
Do you fool with modern high tech voodoo?
Too bad if you're a victim but whatever you do
Don't volunteer
Why would ya volunteer?
Please don't volunteer!

48. I should stay the hell off this thread!!!
OK...I am going to rain on the Anger and Resentment thread...I was trying to think of my favorite "anger and resentment" song, because I have so many (The Four None Blonds, "What's Up")...

But, I am packing to move to a smaller, quieter, more Liberal town in NC with the World's Cutest Most Fabulous Ever Husband (that would be TWCMFEHJanTheStudMichael) and I am listening to Jimmy Buffett, drinking Jack Daniels the way I like it (not fucked up with ice, or silly mixers) and my cat is purring.....and I talked to the World's Coolest Mother in Law...(That would be TWCMILJanTheStudMichael'sMother)....

My world is too good right now.

I can't think of a thing to be angry or resentful about.

It's just one of those moments for me.

(Stephanie will resume being her normal bitchy self in a month, OK?)

50. TOOL's "Forty-Six & 2"
Forty-Six & 2

My shadow's

Shedding skin and
I've been picking
Scabs again.
I'm down
Digging through
My old muscles
Looking for a clue.

I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own confused
And insecure delusions
For a piece to cross me over
Or a word to guide me in.
I wanna feel the changes coming down.
I wanna know what I've been hiding in

My shadow.
Change is coming through my shadow.
My shadow's shedding skin
I've been picking
My scabs again.

I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own chaotic
And insecure delusions.

I wanna feel the change consume me,
Feel the outside turning in.
I wanna feel the metamorphosis and
Cleansing I've endured within

My shadow
Change is coming.
Now is my time.
Listen to my muscle memory.
Contemplate what I've been clinging to.
Forty-six and two ahead of me.

55. I Don't Mind if You Forget me- Morrissey
Edited on Thu Feb-19-04 09:37 PM by populistmom
I don’t mind
I don’t mind if you forget me
Having learned my lesson
I never left an impression on anyone

So now you send me your hardened ’regards’
When once you’d send me ’love’
Sincerely I must tell you
Your mild ’best wishes’
They make me suspicious

I don’t mind
I don’t mind if you forget me
Having learned my lesson
I never left an impression on anyone
The pressure to change, to move on
Was strange
And very strong
So this is why I tell you
I really do understand
Bye bye

I don’t mind if you forget me
No no no no no no no

You can only be strong for so long
It may not eat you but it will beat you
So this is why I tell you
I really don’t understand
This time

Rejection is one thing
But rejection from a fool
Is cruel
Rejection is one thing
But rejection from a fool
Is cruel
And I don’t mind if you forget me
I don’t mind if you forget me

No mercy for what we are doing
No thought to even what we have done
We don't need to feel the sorrow
No remorse for the helpless one

War without end
No remorse no repent
We don't care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath

Blood feeds the war machine
As it eats it's way across the land
We don't need to feel the sorrow
No remorse is the one command

War without end
No remorse no repent
We don't care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath

Only the strong survive
No will to save the weaker race
We are ready to kill all comers
Like a loaded gun right in your face

War without end
No remorse no repent
We don't care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath

Attack
Bullets are flying
People are dying
With madness surrounding all hell's
Breakin' loose
Soldiers are hounding
Bodies are mounting
Cannon are shouting to take their abuse
With war machines going
Blood starts to flowing
No mercy given to anyone here
The furious fighting
Swords are like lightening
It all becomes frightening
You know death is near

NO REMORSE....

62. "Hooker With a Penis".... Tool

Hooker with a Penis

I met a boy wearing Vans, 501s, and a
Dope Beastie t, nipple rings, and
New tattoos that claimed that he
Was OGT,
From '92,
The first EP.

And in between
Sips of Coke
He told me that
He thought
We were sellin' out,
Layin' down,
Suckin' up
To the man.

Well now I've got some
A-dvice for you, little buddy.
Before you point the finger
You should know that
I'm the man,

And if I'm the man,

Then you're the man, and
He's the man as well so you can
Point that fuckin' finger up your ass.

All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.

I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
And you bought one.

So I've got some
Advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point your finger
You should know that
I'm the man,

If I'm the fuckin' man
Then you're the fuckin' man as well
So you can
Point that fuckin' finger up your ass.

All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.

I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
And you bought one.

All you read and
Wear or see and
Hear on TV
Is a product
Begging for your
Fatass dirty
Dollar

So...Shut up and

Buy my new record
Send more money
Fuck you, buddy.

65. Stupid by Sarah McLachlan
Edited on Thu Feb-19-04 10:36 PM by populistmom
Night lift up the shades let in the brilliant light of morning
But steady me now for I am weak and starving for mercy
Sleep has left me alone to carry the weight of unraveling where we went wrong
And all I can do to hang on, to keep me from falling into old familiar shoes

How stupid could I be
a simpleton could see
that you're no good for me
but you're the only one I see

Love has made me a fool set me on fire and watched as I floundered
unable to speak except to cry out and wait for your answer
and you come around in your time speaking of fabulous places create
an oasis that dries up as soon as you're gone
you leave me here burning in this desert without you

How stupid could I be
a simpleton could see
that you're no good for me
but you're the only one I see

Everything changes everything falls apart
I can't stand to feel myself losing control
In the deep of my weakness I know

How stupid could I be
a simpleton could see
that you're no good for me
but you're the only one I see

71. 'Everything you want' by Vertical Horizon
Somewhere there's speaking
It's already coming in
Oh and it's rising at the back of your mind
You never could get it
Unless you were fed it
Now you're here and you don't know why

But under skinned knees and the skid marks
Past the places where you used to learn
You howl and listen
Listen and wait for the
Echoes of angels who won't return

Chorus
He's everything you want
He's everything you need
He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
And you don't know why

You're waiting for someone
To put you together
You're waiting for someone to push you away
There's always another wound to discover
There's always something more you wish he'd say

Chorus

But you'll just tight
And watch it unwind
It's only what you're asking for
And you'll be just fine
With all of your time
It's only what you're waiting for

Out of the island
Into the highway
Past the places where you might have turned
You never did notice
But you still hide away
The anger of angels who won't return

Chorus
I am everything you want
I am everything you need
I am everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
I say all the right things
At exactly the right time
But I mean nothing to you and I don't know why
And I don't know why
Why
I don't know

I just substitute 'she's' for 'he's' in the song, and its perfect for when I am feeling like my husband is taking me for granted.

What is this I see (No)
You don’t come home to me (Oh, no)
When you don’t come home to me (Man)
Can’t deal, can’t bear

You keep tellin’ me lies
But to your surprise

81. First Rule of Love
Edited on Thu Feb-19-04 11:45 PM by Ramsey
by Del Amitri

I was about to go to bed, and this one struck me, the ultimate in relationship anger and resentment songs:

You'll get hooked, you'll get drugged
She'll be your essence she'll be your blood
And you'll want her so much but you'll never get enough
And that's the first rule of love

She'll smell so sweetly in the morning
She'll make you feel so good inside
And you'll want her so much you'll give everything else up
And that's the first rule of love

You'll grow comfortable together
You'll start to fit like hand and glove
And then you'll start to hate the men she used to dream of
And that's the first rule of love

You'll miss her madly, when you're apart
Love is like gravity holding down your heart

You'll grow envious and bitter
She'll be enquiring and concerned
And you'll feel so close to her but never close enough
To get past the first rule of love
And with the awkwardness of strangers
You will finally give up
No exceptions to the first rule of love

84. Had Enough by The Who
I've had enough of bein' nice
I've had enough of right and wrong
I've had enough of tryin' to love my brother

I've had enough of bein' good
And doin' everything like i'm told I should
If you need a lover, you'd better find another

Life is for the living
Takers never giving

Suspicion takes the place of trust
My love is turning into lust
If you get on the wrong side of me you better run for cover

I've had enough of bein' trodden on
My passive days are gonna be long gone
If you slap one cheek, well, I ain't gonna turn the other

Life is for the living
Takers never giving

Fooling no one but ourselves
Good is dying

Here comes the end
Here comes the end of the world

I'm gettin' sick of this universe
Ain't gonna get better; it's gonna get worse
And the world's gonna sink with the weight of the human race

Hate and fear in every face
I'm gettin' ready and I've packed my case
If you find somewhere better, can you save my place?

Fooling no one but ourselves
Love is dying

Here comes the end
Here comes the end
Here comes the end of the world

86. and coincidentally, my other fave
has almost the same title

I've Had Enough (by Pete Townshend on Quadrophenia, as opposed to John Entwistle on "Who Are You")

You were under the impression
That when you were walking forward
You'd end up further onward
But things ain't quite that simple.

You got altered information
You were told to not take chances
You missed out on new dances
Now you're losing all your dimples.

My jacket's gonna be cut and slim and checked,
Maybe a touch of seersucker, with an open neck.
I ride a G.S. scooter with my hair cut neat,
Wear my wartime coat in the wind and sleet.

Love Reign O'er Me.
Love Reign O'er Me.
Love.

I've had enough of living
I've had enough of dying
I've had enough of smiling
I've had enough of crying
I've taken all the high roads
I've squandered and I've saved
I've had enough of childhood
I've had enough of graves...

Get a job and fight to keep it,
Strike out to reach a mountain.
Be so nice on the outside
But inside keep ambition

Don't cry because you hunt them
Hurt them first they'll love you
There's a millionaire above you
And you're under his suspicion.

I've had enough of dancehalls
I've had enough of pills
I've had enough of streetfights
I've seen my share of kills
I'm finished with the fashions
And acting like I'm tough
I'm bored with hate and passion
I've had enough of trying to love.

85. "Black #1" Type O Negative
Now, I can't remeber all the lyrics, but he insults a gothy chick, and mentions that loving her is like loving the dead. In my book, sounds like he loaths her.

87. I Hate You! as done by Slayer
You are just a waste of sperm
They way you look
Makes my stomach turn
The way you think
Is no way at all

God you really think you have balls

I hate you ain’t it true
I hate you and everything you do

You walk around like a fucking dick
And everytime you’re near
You know I get real sick

You’re so stupid
There’s nothing in your head
God how I wish that you were dead

I hate you ain’t it true
I hate you and everything you do

(repeat intro.)

89. Remember Ice-T's "Body Count" album from 1992?

You know, the one with "Cop Killer" on it? That album was one extended primal scream!

91. Oh boy I have a few
Half of NIN's stuff, but specifically "Ruiner" and "March of the Pigs".

"Crucify" by Tori Amos when I'm feeling less "argh!" and more "meh".
"Psycho Magnet" by London After Midnight. Apoptygma Berzerk's cover of Metallica's Fade to Black (the original is good too).

93. Masters of War - Bob Dylan
Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

97. NIN: Bow down before the one you serve
For a long time Billy Joel's Pressure was number 1. But NIN seems to capture some of my anger better.

He's good at anger. Also gloom & depression. With just a touch of black humor.

112. John Lennon's How Do You Sleep
is always a good one.

So Sgt. Pepper took you by surprise
You better see right through that mother's eyes
Those freaks was right when they said you was dead
The one mistake you made was in your head
Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?
You live with straights who tell you you was king
Jump when your momma tell you anything
The only thing you done was yesterday
And since you're gone you're just another day
Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?

Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?

A pretty face may last a year or two
But pretty soon they'll see what you can do
The sound you make is muzak to my ears
You must have learned something in all those years
Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?
