I just bought four new bougainvilleas!
Bringing my total to - 5!

Back in early April, I bought some herbs and tried to set up a herb garden in a windowbox that I set up on the rail of my balcony (I live in an apartment). Predictably, the cilantro flowered and died before there was even enough of it to munch on, the basil immediately withered away, the thyme did okay but not great, and my sad, little jalapeno tried real hard to make me a pepper, but it hasn't happened yet, and he looks a little sad. :(

Before:

SO. I bought four new bougainvilleas, that being the only plant I've managed to keep more than two years (hell, more than two months, really) without killing. I took the herbs out of the windowbox and put two bougainvilleas in there, and put two more on the ground. So now I have one marigold (one having died inexplicably), some lavender that may or may not give up the ghost, an almost-dead tomato plant with one ripe tomato on it, a jalapeno (now repotted by itself), some thyme (in with the tomato), a nonflowering but luxurious geranium (???) and five bougainvilleas!!!!!

I can't take an after picture, because my camera is being repaired, but here's what I want it to look like eventually:

(The house, too! Haha!)

1. Those are gorgeous!
And yes, I too desire the house!

Did you plant the two bougainvilleas in the ground, or are they in pots? How would you make them climb up the side of the house like that?

I have developed a sudden interest in gardening this spring- I've been walking around my lovely town a lot and have "garden envy"-also "house envy"-- but so far all it's progressed to is hanging a couple of flowering baskets, putting a flowering plant on the front steps, and having my husband yank out a dead rhododendron, leaving a sorry empty spot in front of the porch.

2. They're all in pots
I live in a sort of split-level place, so, even though I am on the ground floor (entering from one street, second floor entering from another street), my balcony juts out about 8 feet above the pool area. I don't have access to any ground dirt, at all. :(

But I think they'll be fantastic.
