1. absolutely beautiful!
brings back memories...we had one in our front yard when I was very young - we lived in South Gate at the time. They can be a little messy, though!

Thanks for posting! :hi:

2. Very lovely
I see quite a bit of it here where I am in San Diego. It always appears in late May or early June.

It is too bad it doesn't last longer.

5. Very pretty.
Most of the Jacaranda trees I see are in bloom. They were green before, and now they are purple. What a transformation!

6. My dear Lionel Mandrake...
Yes, the trees transform when the flowers emerge...

Some have hardly any leaves...

It's as though they are taking turns with the flowers...

9. My dear Maestro!
Glad you could come by tonight...

These are all near my home, and they are quite tall...

I suspect they're nearly 30 feet tall...

As far as I know, just the "normal" neighborhood birds hang out in them!

You're welcome!

I'll keep "more variety" in mind the next time I take pictures...

Thanks, sweetie...

15. The Purple Tree!!
I made the mistake of calling it that once in a room full of LA natives. They all turned on me like I'd committed some sort of horrible sin.

I'm not really into learning plant names, but I have Jacaranda down cold after that little incident!

My sister is visiting me this week and I was showing her around Beverly Hills today. You know how BH has tree-themes for every street? Well, the Jacaranda street was a HUGE hit. Totally amazing.

Yup, they are kind of purpley...

I'll bet that was a traumatic incident!

And I am so sorry...I forgot I was supposed to call you...

It's not as though we had huge plans either...:yoiks:

*sigh*

One of these weeks, we will get together!

Glad your sister is having a good visit!

20. It wasn't so much traumatic as
actually sorta funny...every last one of them acted as though I'd committed some sort of horrid act! I still haven't figured out what the big deal was. It's a tree. The flowers are freakin' purple (mostly). It's a purple frickin' tree! ;)

Oh, don't worry about not calling! I've been dealing with out-of-town guests all month. But my sister is leaving tomorrow and then I'm FREEEEEEEEEE. I love having guests, but I am SO sick of doing the LA tourist thing. Ugh.

Anyway, call me whenever you have time. No hurry!

There is a certain feeling in common, yes...

The Cherry trees are all clustered together, which does increase their impact...

These tend to be scattered around in different neighborhoods...

Glad you enjoyed these!

Ours is in our front yard, between our two driveways...

We hope that one day, with the proper pruning and such, that it will spread over both driveways!

32. They're popular because they're really easy to grow...
They don't need a lot of water...

And, of course, because they're beautiful!

They're not native to here...

I believe they're from South Africa, but I'm not sure about this.

We always have fun--and MG Jr. just loves to travel and glories in a house full of people, especially when that includes "Unca John", whom he worships.

Also looking forward to the cooler temps in Riverside--never thought I'd be saying THAT!

Ours is over our driveways, and the cars go into the garages!

It always gives me a thrill to catch sight of one as it peeks out from behind a house...
