My first ever Seascape
I'm taking a Plein Air painting class and today's location was Abalone Cove Shoreline Park in Palos Verdes, CA

This is the view I chose:

Here I am painting:

And here is the final product, it's a little blurry.

5. I like it.
Keep painting! My friend's father's first painting was a watercolor he did for his mom about 20 years ago.Now he is commissioned to paint for the PGA (Professional Golf Association) along with other associations and he has authored many books. He has an art gallery in my city and his work is cool.

Cool thing is that he is voting for Obama this time around even though he voted for Bush.I just had to add that in there.

Funny that you should mention the PGA, I want to paint some golf greens for kicks, plus my parents would want one. :-)

I kid, I kid - seriously, that would be excellent for a 100th attempt, let alone a first. :toast:

15. That's a beautiful painting.
I like paintings that are an individual interpretation of something, not a near exact replica.

I'm just starting to feel comfortable about not obsessing with getting everything exact. From this point on, I'm just going to run with it and see what happens - it's a lot more fun, that's for sure. :-)

16. Speaking as a "surrealist" artist, I have to say that I like that piece a lot.
"SeaScapes" are a place where Realism and Surrealism can be one and the same.

I like the balance of your composition- it works within itself
while making it clear that there's more to see beyond its borders.
That's not easy to do- kudos to you for doing it!

And, just on a personal note, I like your use of BLUE.
It's nothing short of masterful.

Richard

30. Thank you. Credit my teacher for the use of blue
Prior to this class I hadn't used such colors as cobalt or pthalo blue. There's some pthalo green and naples yellow mixed in there as well.

One of the big things I've learned through all of this, is how to use warm and cool colors. Warm for objects closer to you, cool to create the illusion of distance.

Even the blurry part. It's a fabulous rendition. But what a tiny canvas! If I didn't see you painting in the photo I would think it's a much larger painting. Your brush stroke and use of color in the light and shadows are quite beautiful

Since I have very little artistic talent of any sort, I have always admired people who can paint.

You did a nice job, and it looks like you enjoyed yourself in the process.

Well done! :hi:
