2. I was wondering if that cracked hoof would be tragic.
Apparently it's not, which is a relief.

4. Cracked hooves are never life threatening

8. Cracked hoofs can cause you to loose your balance because of pain
just like a broken toe, when you come down on it wrong. I don't think they should have taken the chance, period. I wouldn't do it with one of my horses. Money, I guess!

9. His feet had nothing to do with it.

He was not fit enough and just got tired. The jock did the right thing in not persisting
with him.

15. Yes, because he was walking completely sound on the way back to the barn.

If his quarter crack was bothering him he would have been favoring that left foot.
But he wasn't.

You cannot train a horse up to the most longest, most important race of its life
by missing almost a week of training and then bluffing your way through the
rest.

I'm very glad that the jock pulled him up. The horse was tired, But he is sound.

20. Jockeys really do care for their horses.
Reminds me of Chris Antley. He saved Charismatic's life after the horse broke a bone in the 1999 Belmont. He held the horse's leg up so he wouldn't damage it by putting weight on it. Charismatic stands at stud today because of Antley. Too bad Antley died about a year later.

11. meh.
Lots of horses do run with a small quarter crack. I think though that maybe he needed an extra week to get fit.
I've been watching horse racing for almost 30 years never seen a serious injury resulting from a foot injury.

36. not life threatening
but hurtful

think of running with a ripped toe nail, but bigger.....

the legs of a horse are their lifeline
it's their only defense

the jockey saved the horse

the owner and the trainer should be
whipped

he never should have run

lost

that have us dreaming.....

There is always next year.

There is a saying in horse racing; "There was never a man committed suicide that had a barn
full of two year olds."

31. Kent Desormeaux is a hero
He didn't run his horse to death. I'm a KY girl by birth, so I know a little bit about the industry. Thoroughbreds love to run and compete. They also enjoy a wonderful quality of life, during and after their racing careers. Warm, comfortable stables, pools, and beautiful fields to run and graze in.

Hopefully, Big Brown simply pulled up and didn't run a good race. If so, the worst he has it is siring future foals...I told my husband if he could sell his sperm for a 1/10 of what Big Brown's will go for, we would be retired and very comfortable.

The horse wasn't there. Desormeaux knew that, and pulled him up. Why risk something if you know you're out of the money?

39. Lexington area.
The road that runs between my parents' hometowns (Winchester and Carlisle) goes right by Claiborne Farm, Secretariat's retirement homehome. And my second cousin was GM of Calumet. He died (prolly drank himself to death) right when it went into bankruptcy, and his estate was sued.

I'm in AL now, but we'd like to retire to WV in a year or so which will get us close enough.

38. Find your Triple Crown winner by November at age 2
If no one stands out as a certified freak at that point, there's no Triple Crown 7 months later.

We need a War Pass, with breeding and stamina. Vindication a few years ago had a big chance but he was injured and never raced again, after unbeaten at age 2.

I cherish the near misses. Tonight I was supposed to regrip golf clubs but spent all night savoring the Big Brown collapse, watching at least 30 times.

This had to be the fewest bets ever for me in a Triple Crown series. I took Big Brown to defeat Colonel John in the Derby, a head to head matchup, then passed the final two legs. No way I could have deciphered that outcome today. If anyone beat Big Brown I thought it would be from the rafters.
