Asshole neighbor just killed our morning glories
We have morning glories planted along the chain-link fence at the back of the yard and he went out there today with chemical spray and sprayed the weeds on his side of the fence totally dousing the morning glories in the process. Would it fucking kill him to just use a GD weedwacker? I HATE,DESPISE LOATHE lawn chemicals of all sorts. I think we fuck up the land enough just putting grass on it when it's not meant for that and then we go and add lots of chemicals and injudicious watering. Every. Fucking. Neighbor. uses lawn chemical services. Fuck them all and the scourge they're bringing to the land.

1. My dear Connonym...
How dreadful...

I just love morning glories!

They are pretty hardy...maybe they'll come back...

I hope so, for your sake!

What a crappy neighbor...

2. It never ends
people will do all manner of destructive things to have a "beautiful lawn", even spraying poisonous chemicals all around to achieve it. Sorry to hear that your neighbor is such a thoughtless idiot.

3. You are singing my song! I am so sick of
reading about everybody going green. All the papers and local magazines go on and on about it. Water conservation, chemical free lawns, blah blah blah. But I want them to show me *where* this is happening! Not in my neighborhood! I see the lawn service trucks with their gas powered machines and chemical wands...leaving the little warning flags to stay off the lawn...where the hell is the yard of the month sign for a truly "GREEN" lawn?

I'm not bitter, lol.

4. Green only in the color of the grass and the color of the money wasted to keep it that way
I don't particularly think a blank lawn of grass is all that aesthetically pleasing. Serves a purpose if you're going to have kids playing on it or whatnot but for the most part it's just dumb. I still see dickheads out watering their lawns even though there are signs posted in every neighborhood regarding watering restrictions (and this is 30 miles off of Lake Michigan, if anyone has water we should have water). For my tastes I prefer wildflowers and a more natural landscape.

5. his chainlink fence?
if it's yours, put in those strips between the chainlinks that make a solid wall.

if it's his, put some sort of protection up on your side to keep it from happening in the future.

how well do you get along with this guy?

6. i was pissed at my neighbor for a year for the same thing. killed
like 5 clematis. beautiful and unusual colored ones. then he goes and plants the plain purple ones. not that they are ugly or anything. mine were just prettier.
and it is my fence, and i had made a point of mentioning that to him in the past.

he is an okay guy, tho, and begones are gone. but he does do all that chemical stuff, and has automatic watering. his grass is all golf course quality. but, we are about 6 blocks from lake michigan, slightly uphill. that crap is in the lake within hours.

7. Do you have a dog?
I had a neighbor who used all kinds of chemicals (actually trying to kill MY plants because she doesn't like anything green and growing). Reading the labels for what she was using, I found that it could be seriously hazardous to animals and kids if they should ingest it.

I mentioned this to her and reminded her that my purebred dogs (didn't bother to say they were rescues) were running about $1300 ea. from a decent breeder and that if anything happened to them because of her chemicals, I'd be more than happy to see a lawyer. And file a malicious poisoning report with the police. (She didn't like the dogs, either)

She never used chemicals again. Started hiring someone to pull the weeds on her side of the fence...and ruin my tree. But that's another rant.

8. i have 3 dogs.
my last boxer lived to be 12 1/2, which is old for them. last big mutt lived to 14, and was hit by a car after jumping the fence. there is a strip between the fence and where the dogs can get near it that is about 1 1/2' wide. he does use the stuff responsibly, and is not as bad as the squirter company.
i sorta amorphously worry about everything, but at this point don't get worked up about any one thing. my family is full of autoimmune diseases, but from what? all i can say is my older sibs are still getting older.
we are so fucked, methinks.

9. This is why all morning glories should be armed.
All living things should have the right to bear arms, even plants. Tough thing for a vegan to admit, but I stand by their rights too.

11. I think my lawn service uses chemicals
but I really don't care as long as my lawn stays pretty and weed-free. The landscaper I hired knows just where to put our bushes and flowers so that they are out of the way of potential lawn service destruction. So far no problems :)

I know I would be mad if a neighbor ruined all my plants after all the hard work and money that went into the project.

12. I'm so sorry...I hate that kind of shit too, and I really empathize with
you losing your morning glories! We had a neighbor once who used to do the same thing; drove me nuts.
Very few people out in our little village use lawn chemicals, so that makes me happy.

I hope you find a way to salvage your flowers
