Netflix
What do people at du think about the Netflix movie program? Is it a good program? Do people get their money's worth?

1. I love it
It enables me to watch television series that I haven't seen. I just finished watching Manor House.

3. I love it!
I use the "Watch Now" feature a LOT. I am a documentary junkie and Netflix is my supplier. ;)

4. Its awesome!
Especially if you like to see a TV series in order and without commercials. I think that's the best use for it, for me anyway.

5. I loved it so much myself that I got a year's subscription for my Mom
& Dad last Christmas. They offered a discount on gift subscriptions for 3 mos., 6 mos., or 1 year last Christmas.

Since Mom & Dad live in a rural area they didn't get to see things like "An Inconvenient Truth" "Sicko" or films and docs that only come to the larger cities. They love Netflix. They see everything they want now because even the blockblusters come out on DVD fairly quickly these days.

Probably TMI, but yeah, I like Netflix.

one of the coolest things is the watch instant feature where you can watch stuff right on your computer screen without waiting for the dvd to come in the mail. I'm halfway through watching the entire series "Weeds" on netflix watch instant.

7. I like it
It's cheap and fast. And you can keep em as long as you want, so if you're too busy to watch it til next week, no big deal. They don't have a lot of old stuff, but they've been geeting better about that.

Khash.

I just started mine last week and I'm totally hooked. I did the one DVD, $8.99 a month that gives you 24/7 access to the online instant movies. It's perfect for us.

I love their selection and service
we get at least one DVD from netflix per week, sometimes more. We've received some that were cracked but mostly its previous people spilling stuff on them. They're easy to clean but every so often we get one that just won't play. Netflix sends a replacement out at no charge the following day.

11. Love it
I've been using Netflix for a couple of years now and the service has always been great. Great selection, lots of good documentaries in particular which are tough to find in movie rental joints and if there's a problem with a DVD, just report it and they'll send you another. And convenient. :hi:

12. New customer--very happy
I've been signed on since the last week in May, and already I've seen:

Pan's Labyrinth
The Lives of Other
The Queen
The Valley of Elah
The Battle of Algiers
The Chorus

and I'm currently on the first season of The Wire.

Service is prompt. I mail off my set of disks, and in two days, I have new ones.

The selection is nothing short of amazing. I swear, they must have everything that's been released in Region 1. My cue, now about 275 disks long, contains lots of foreign films and TV series, some of which I had no idea were on DVD and haven't seen since they were first broadcast in the 1950s ("Medic"? "Crossroads"? I'm getting them just out of curiosity to see how they hold up.)

Next up are Season 2 of MI-5, Death at a Funeral, Season 3 of A Touch of Frost, Hot Fuzz, the final season of the Sopranos (which ran after I canceled HBO), and Z.

I am an extremely happy viewer if things keep up this way.

13. The New Ones
You are not the only person who said they send out new dvd shortly after you send the old ones back are the new dvds ones you order or do they just send you new ones? In other words are they sending you dvd that you asked them to send you or ones they pick out?

14. So far, they've been in the order I requested them
I think they do that as long as the DVDs you request are in stock.

If you order a box set, the discs come one at a time or three at a time or four at a time, depending on what plan you're on. I'm on the 4-disk plan, and first season of The Wire is five disks. I got the first disk of The Wire last time, along with three feature films, and the most recent shipment contained disks 2-5 of The Wire.

Oh, another added feature is free shipping and returns, with the envelope the disk came in converting to a prepaid return mailer.

15. I've used it for a few years
It's the greatest thing ever. I hate everything on TV these days, so most of my entertainment comes from NetFlix.

I just got my NetFlix player, which is a box that streams the movies directly to your TV from the internet. It's fantastic. Hopefully they'll add more titles to their streaming videos over time.

They have an extremely large catalog of DVDs. If you want it, they probably have it.

Just sign up and see how you like it.

24. just got my first delivery today. Set the whole thing up Thursday night
and the first 3 came today. I know what I will be watching tonight.

my daughter strongly recommended it to me and I finally succumbed. When my current 'deal' with my cable co is over in 9 months and my monthly goes up I am cancelling all my movie channels.

25. I don't have a local video shop
so I love NetFlix.

I imagine the independent video shops won't be around for much longer, it'll all be franchises that mainly send out videos like NetFlix and have occasional meatspace shops with drop off boxes and a limited supply of new releases so you can get a new movie immediately.

26. Normally I would patronize a local store, but...
Edited on Sat Jun-07-08 06:15 PM by CBHagman
...many of the local places that were in business when I moved here have closed. :-( On top of that, I don't own a car and would have to travel by public transport to any of the independent places, and on top of that I'd have the time constraint.

There is a chain video store within walking distance, but I'm not happy with the selections or the service.

So Netflix it is, for convenience reasons and also for the indescribably wide selection. I have no beefs about service, either. I think I've gotten maybe one non-playable disc in the two years I've had the service.

28. Me too
The local video store that was within walking distance of my apartment went out of business, and now all that are left are Blockbuster (with its poor selection of non-standard films) and Hollywood (owned by a disagreable Oregonian). If I'm going to have to patronize a national chain, I'm going to patronize one with a wide selection of obscure films and good service.

27. Another satisfied customer
A bit of explanation about what movies you get sent to you...

You get to search through their catalog and set up a list (they call it a queue) of movies you want to see. They send you the movies based on their order in your queue. So if you put movies A, B, and C in the queue, they'll send you A first, etc. Unless one of your movies is unavailable (which rarely happens), in which case they'll skip it until it is available and they'll go on to the next movie.

If you don't have movies in your queue, they don't send you a new movie, so you do have to keep that up. But they're very good about suggesting movies based on what you have in your queue and how you've rated movies you've already seen, so keeping movies in the queue isn't usually a problem.

Hope that helps!

29. And you can "save" things that aren't yet out on DVD.
They also have a supplementary queue of all the things that they list in their database but don't yet have a DVD copy of. So if something is pending release or just airing on HBO or similar, you can often find a listing on Netflix with the option to save. It then goes into your queue when the release time arrives.
