ouch. just fed my kitty. what is up with them flipping over on their back?
(we are new to each other, only a few months)

before i feed my kitty we both hop up on the bed and play a bit. i could pet her back and fool around with her head. she likes that. and she does this rubbing her head/mouth against my hand thing that is so cute. purrring...

lately she has been rolling over on her back. if i pet her head or her back, its all cool, but if i pet her belly (which she is exposing and offering) i get these rapid fire back paws flipping at me and the full front grabbing paws with claws extended, occasionally a bite (although not very hard.)

the last few nights all i get is kitty on her back.

its like she's daring me to rub her belly. and if i do POW, POW, POW... (those little back feet) scratches ensue.

i guess i should just stop playing with my kitty before i feed her. but i loved those moments we had together.

is this a passing thing? i know kitties are crazy.

any advice?

1. Our Morrissey does that with me, especially after I've washed my hands
He loves cleanliness - when I wash my hands or just get out of the shower he's right there to rub against me and grab and bite my hands/feet. It's very cute. I think your kitty is showing you love!

4. Lucy does that once in awhile
Always after extensive tummy skritchins.

The weird part is the mood she gets in just before it starts — almost like she's in a state of semi-bliss.

Yeah, that kinda bliss.

Watch two together and one will roll onto their back inviting an attack. When none is forthcoming they will bat and try to provoke one.

He is quite well. We had the 1 yr 2 mos. checkup and vaccinations yesterday. Heart murmur still there, grade 1-2, needs to be monitored. Otherwise, perfect health. Temp, weight, teeth, coat, etc all perfect and beautiful. He's an handsome boy.

We're not too worried. He discovered catnip two days ago and is just being all precious all over the house. :D

Sounds like you had a better vet visit than we did.

Dr. Dürr: "I must inform you, Mrs. __________ , that Ginger is a little 'on the limit.' If he weighs more than 6 kilos in August, we will need to discuss a d . . ."

Me: "Don't say the 'D' word in front of him, please! We spell it when he's around. D-I-E-T."

11. cats do that
They love to trick us with their bellies. If I know the cat is one of those who lures people and then bites, I won't play using my exposed hand. I play using a toy of some kind. A string with a button securely tied to the end, or a feather, or even an empty paper towel cardboard roll.

Cat bites can mean a trip to the doctor and expensive antibiotics, in our experience.

Besides, I think that allowing them to play so aggressively is a mistake over the long haul. They need boundaries. My big fat orange marmalade tabby obviously WANTS to bite me at times when I'm petting him, but he stops short. The killer instinct is so obviously fighting to surface, but he holds back. We have a level of trust between us. I won't ever, ever hurt him, and he doesn't hurt me.

That she exposes her belly shows she trusts you. Then she fights, but it's agame. Sometimes cats don't seem to know that claws hurt.

50. "Sometimes cats don't seem to know that claws hurt."
Boy ain't that the truth! When my cats were kittens one of them got great pleasure from charging into the bedroom at full speed jumping on the bed, burrowing under the covers and attacking/biting/scratching my legs...My vet told me it was because she thought I was another kitty and was playing with me as such.
Now of course she knows that claws hurt and uses that knowledge to her advantage..like this morning clawing my feet at 7am so I would wake up...x(

my others are pretty much disinterested in showing tummy or having tummy touched.
