The Lounge NEEDS a Batman thread...it just does.
And I'm not even a huge Batman fan....
Okay belay that I have seen both the 1940's serials and enjoyed them...and I am a huge mark out for the teevee show
BUT OTHER THAN THAT....
:)

Funniest villain: Victor Buono as "King Tut"....a faux Egyptian Potentate murmuring yiddish endearments to his moll...Nasser must've been livid.
:)

what was his name... he had a floral motif, played by, I think, Paul Lynd... and had a bunch of hippy henchmen.

Wicked funny. Wicked, wicked, funny.

LOUIE THE LILAC!!!! That was his name! Played by Uncle Miltie...

2. I love the TV show ...
at the bar where I work, we have a TV on and I get them to put on TVLand Friday and Saturday nites at midnight for an hour of it.

Favorite bad exchange:

Batman to a librarian: "Have you noticed any beculiar looking people today?"
Librarian: "Beculiar? What do you mean?"
Batman: "For example, have you seen anyone wearing green tights covered with black question marks?"
Librarian: "Hmmmm. I don't think so. But then I do see a lot of people during the day."
Batman: "Yes, of course."

5. I forget which Batman movie it was
...with the nod to the series. Best moment, I think.

"Holy rusted metal, Batman!"

(Dark Knight gives him the evil eye)

"No, I mean look. It's rusted metal... and it's got holes in it!" :D

6. My favorite bit of dialogue:
Batman (in pursuit, trying to make a calculation): Quick, Robin! What's the cube root of pi?
Robin: Right now?!
Batman: Never mind, I just remembered it....

Robin: "Gosh Batman, is there anything you don't know".
Batman: "Yes." (turns to face the camera) "Several things in fact."

8. How many actresses played Catwoman? Three, right?
I have in mind:

Julie Newmar

Lee Merriweather

And my very favorite: Eartha Kitt (in a role Miss Kitt was born to play!:-)

9. Neeson and Freeman are in BATMAN
Variety reports today that Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman are confirmed to be in the cast for Christopher Nolan's BATMAN film. The trade magazine also connects the dots and lists Neeson's character as the whispered heavy the Internet's been buzzing about for months, R'as al Ghul. Freeman will play Lucius Fox, another already rumored character, who is the CEO of Wayne Enterprises.

Michael Cain will be playing the Butler...whatever his name is. I can't recall at the moment.

10. R'as al Ghul? Very cool!
And who's playing Batman? And who's writing? Will this be a good Batman, or will it suck like all the post-Keaton movies?

17. I hope they don't do that "two villains" crap again
A movie with the Ventriloquist would be cool.

Also, doesn't Liam Neeson strike you as too "nice" for R'as al Ghul? I always thought of Timothy Dalton for that role.

19. Sorry, but I hear they are...
Apparently, Neeson's Ras al Ghul will be the main villain, but they plan to have the Scarecrow in the movie, too.

Personally, I'd like to see Johnny Depp play te Scarecrow.

11. There were SO MANY great villains...
Some of my favorite Batman villains were:

Victor Buono as King Tut (Best Line: My plan has failed, my queen has deserted me, and everyone's being MEAN to me!)

Roddy McDowall as the Bookworm

Tallullah bankhead as the Black Widow (Miss Bankhead's last appearance)

Wouldn't it be great to see the show Brought Back with a contemporary cast?

13. Fun though it might be to contemplate,
I don't think Batman could be successfully revived as a high cocept comedy as was the case with the teevee show...we just don't do "camp" like that anymore.
The animated series has it's humorous touchs though, and is probably the best "straight" version of Bats short of the Keaton run in the movies.
:)

18. sadly no Kevin Conroy in this one
that I know of. And no Mark Hammill either.

They were two of the best things about all the recent animated incarnations of The Worlds Greatest Detective.
