Brits Replacing Carpet With Hard Wood - Falling Down And Gettting Hurt
<snip>

VOGUE among British householders to replace carpets with bare wooden floors might be doing wonders for their minimalist credentials, but only at high cost to their health, according to a report.

New accident statistics showed that more than 12,000 Britons a year have to go to hospital after falling on their floors, against a figure of just 2900 five years ago, The Times said today.

Citing information from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa), the newspaper said that the quadrupling of such injuries appeared to have been caused by Britain's new love affair with wood floors.

Spurred on by hugely popular television shows extolling the virtues of home improvement, millions of people have ripped up their carpets, but as yet seemed less well versed in the art of moving across a shiny surface.

4. They were getting fed up with those carpet burns that got
infected with house mites/bovine spongiform encephalitis/foot and mouth/subliminal Blair messages encoded into static electricity shocks.....Now everyone living in tenement blockes is going deaf because of the constant noise of walking on wood....

7. Word to the Brits: Wool sox and polished Oak don't mix.
Every Colonial here learns that tech tip by the time they're 5 or so.
Don't come down stairs with wood treads in your sox, either. Very hard on the ol' tailbone!
