Do they make wireless surveillance cameras that I can tie into my wireless network?
I have my computer stuff tied into a wireless N network. I want to install a day/night surveillance camera at the gate by the road. Do you know any companies that sell a camera that can be tied into a wireless computer network?

To satisfy the curious people, the gate is about 150 yards from my house and I can't see it from the house. I would like to be able to see it remotely for various reasons. 1) It would be nice to know when the UPS guy drops off a package so it doesn't sit up there overnight. 2) Sometimes I get mail, sometimes I don't. It would be nice to know if the mailman stops or not. 3) There is an area to pull in off the road so I can unlock the gate. It is also used by drunks to relieve themselves, a couple of times they have relieved themselves on my lock & chain. It was gross to have to unlock a urine soaked lock. A couple of times they have emptied their ashtrays & empty beer cans right there. If I knew who was doing it & saw a pattern i.e. every Saturday night between 12-1am I could ask the Sheriff to do something about it. 4) If my place is ever broken into it would be nice to have some pictures of the suspects.

1. I did some research on this a while back
There are lots of cameras out there, but as I recall, "line of sight" is required to the computer. I do seem to remember that you can set up a relay to get around the blind corners.

Try googling around a bit. There are cheap ones and more expensive ones. I think wireless surveillance would be the key words.

2. I've been looking around but there is a lot of stuff to sort through.
I have a wireless "N" network which is supposed to have better range than the "G" but if it needs a clear line of sight I am out of luck.

3. better off with wires
no "n" standard cameras yet, 'cuz "n" is still in draft. 802.11G is what Linksys offers on the WVC-200. Not much for nighttime recording, though. But if you have a streetlight in the area, maybe?

But if you're looking for relatively smooth video and not a series of frames, wire it.

4. Thanks Lance!
I guess I will wait a while and see if something better is developed. I am going to have to buy a pair of latex gloves to unlock the gate in the meantime! (I wish I could legally electrify the gate- that would stop people from peeing on it!)

5. Well a slightly illegal and temporary electrifying would work
I used to keep my horse corralled with a single wire powered by a large 9v battery. Just enough of a shock to get the message across.
