Poll question: Favorite OMD song?
I have purposely left off "If You Leave" because it has been beaten to death by "80's Retro Radio".

My personal fave is either "Enola Gay" or "Secret"
Politcal vs. Personal

1. Souvenier hands down
But how could you forget:

If You Leave (even if beaten to death)

Forever Live And Die

2. I gave up on them when "Crush" came out, but I love:
Talking loud and clear
Saying just what we feel
Lying in the grass
With the sun on our backs
It doesn't really matter
What we do or what we say
With every little movement
We give ourselves away

Opposite and opposite
Decisions are reversed
Facing one another
With words that couldn't hurt
With every little word
You're getting closer to me
Talking loud and clear
Saying just what we feel today

Talking loud and clear
Saying just what we feel
Lying in the grass
We've got time on our hands
Body next to body
With silence all around
We understand each other
But didn't make a sound

Promises and promises
Of vows we shall return
Facing one another
I thought my heart would burn
You turn to move away
But then get closer to me
Talking loud and clear
Saying just what we feel today

What a perfect, happy little pop song. Could the person singing it be any more content?

My favorite is "Of All The Things We're Made" from Dazzle Ships (most of the songs from that album, actually) and "She's Leaving" from Architecture and Morality.

"Walking on the Milky Way" is an awesome song, too.

I got to see OMD in concert in 1985. They were the opening act for Power Station (The band with Robert Palmer and a couple of guys from Duran Duran). The opening act was supposed to be Spandau Ballet -- that's what I was really looking forward to (super-geek). OMD were a last-minute fill-in as one of the Spandau guys broke his arm or something. I had never heard OMD so I picked up "Crush" (that was the album they were touring for) and was just blown away by them in concert. They were way better than Power Station.

I hate "If You Leave" in the same way I hate "Don't you (forget about me)" by Simple Minds. Oh, and "People are People" by Depeche Mode.

I miss that style of music. Is there anyone working the synth-pop scene? The only band I know of is the German duo Wolfsheim.

PS "Dazzle Ships" is a GREAT album, as is "A&M". They were so sterile in that period...sterile musically, and unbelievably humanist, lyrically.
