AHHHH!! Idiots!!!!
listening to the CSPAN gay marriage thing (see another thread) and there's an absolute idiot on the phone who said first, 1) I just have four quick points, and then makes this idiotic comment:

"It doesn't matter what religion you are, there are aboslutel truths in this universe, and you can read in the New and the Old Testament that God established marriage only for men and women."

ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. The Bible can be interpreted in so many different ways
take for instance the interpretation of Homer Simpson:

"If the Bible has taught us anything, which it hasn't, it's that girls should stick to girl's sports like hot oil wrestling, foxy boxing and such and such."

4. Ooh, I'm so angry
The Christian woman was just talking about how marriage is a religious and a secular thing (for which she is right) but then stated that all religions (and every time she said "all religions" she said "Christian, Jewish, Muslim" ignoring an awful lot of other ones) throughout time have recognized the man-woman marriage thing.

Excuse me? Has she read her Bible?

Polygamy very popular all through the old testament.

All over the mid-east, including Islam, polygamy very popular and common.

Man-woman marriage pretty damn recent, really. While there is no biblical (or Koran, so far as I know) reference to man-man or woman-woman marriage, there certainly is an awful lot of man-woman-woman-woman-woman... marriages given full blessing. Also man-woman-concubine, man-woman-woman's servant, etc.

I don't like that kind of failure to recognize and be truthful about the true history.

6. Well, there's ancient Greek religion
which we are trained from childhood to call "mythology," but I'm reasonably sure it was as valid a religion to them as this lady's is to her. While I can't think of any same-sex marriages per se there either, same-sex relationships between gods and mortals were pretty prevalent in the religion, which seems like a pretty heady endorsement.

8. This soooo pisses me off...
If one of those bigots could tell me how gay people marrying will EFFECT THEIR LIFE IN ANY WAY, I wish they'd tell me. :grr: They can't. All they will say is that it's against the bible and how it's against tradition. People don't realize that the bible was written a thousand years after Christ walked on earth. They don't realize that all the BS about subserviant women and men being lord and master was put in by King James, who by the way added and took things out at his discretion. The bible is a beautiful piece of literature, but all it really is a handbook on how to keep the common people under control. Why do you think religion was organized to begin with? To control the masses and keep them in their place...Why do you think the meek shall inherit the earth? Because the king and the aristocracy didn't want competition. Christians piss me off and the only way our country is going to survive is if we get religion out of our government.

10. The real battle is HOW TO MAKE OUR PLANET SUSTAINABLE
For our species in a way conducive to good living, peaceful, and comfortable.
Any less leads to self extinction in the short term.

11. Yes, spend less time worry what others are doing,
and spend more time worrying about what WE are doing.

Gay marriage will not destroy the world.

Excessive use of the world's resources - that will destroy the world.

Oddly enough, the ones who claim gay marriage will kill us all are, generally speaking, the types who are also the ones who think that environmentalism is "Gaia Worship" (if they're smart enough to know the word, otherwise it's just "pagan") and that being the good stewards of the earth that God told us to be is, ironically, un-Christian and an insult to our Lord and Savior.

Go figger.

Go ahead and pour that acid into the rivers. Go ahead and burn those fossil fuels. Go ahead and cut down all the forests. Just don't be gay when you do it.

Come, we go Ewa beach, push sand up nostrils in confusion.

12. Wait, if it doesn't matter what religion you are...
does he realize that not everyone buys into the Bible as some sort of "Law of the Land". Heck, I'm a Christian and I see the Old Testament as sort of a history lesson and the Gospels as how I prefer to live my life (I disregard just about everything that Paul did).
