the cure show last night blew my mind
my boyfriend and i went to see the cure at red rocks last night (for those of you not familiar with red rocks, it's a natural ampitheatre west of denver...check it out http://redrocksonline.com/). it was the third time i'd seen them, but the first time that he had and i could not have picked a better venue for the show.

it was a perfect summer-like evening, a light breeze, we got to watch the full moon come up over the city lights and there was a storm east of denver and lightning filled that part of the horizon.

they didn't come on until it was almost fully dark, but they played for about three hours and i was amazed by some of the songs they played. there where quite a few songs that i hadn't heard them play live before.

i have no idea what they opened with (it was from their upcoming album), but here is the rest of the play list: prayers for rain, a night like this, end of the world, love song, to wish impossible things, pictures of you, lullaby, maybe someday, the perfect boy, from the edge of the deep green sea, hot hot hot, the only one, the blood, the walk, push, friday i'm in love, just like heaven, if only tonight we could sleep, wrong number, 100 years and then another new song i didn't know.

encore 1: homesick and disintegration

encore 2: freakshow, close to me and why can't i be you

encore 3: boy's don't cry, jumping someone else's train, grinding halt, 1015 on a saturday night and killing an arab

that show was the most fun i've had and the happiest i've felt in a long, long time :D

3. lucky you!!
Sounds like a great set list too - I've been keeping track, and this is the first I think I've seen the disintegration encores. How do the Disintegration songs work with the smaller band? Do they play keyboards, or have new all guitar arrangements (if this is way too cure geeky for you, that's fine.... but just in case you do know).

I don't think I'm going to get to see them on this tour, which totally sucks, since the bits I've heard make me think they're better now than the last few times I saw them (with the last incarnation of the group).

11. they had a lot of new guitar arrangements
but there were some pre-recorded keyboard bits. i will say it was a bit odd, at least for me, without the keyboards, but it sounded wonderful all the same.

i've seen them in a few iterations (and i can never remember who was with the band for what show), but this show was just stellar. i'm sorry it looks like you won't be able to see them on this tour

5. Red Rocks is magical
Even a bad band can have a great show there. I've only been there once, but wow. The nicest concert space I've ever seen.

x( We got our refund on the first set of tickets we bought and then when they rescheduled we didn't get more. My husband was feeling cheap and he's already seen them. I was THIS close.. now I'll never see them x(

Reading about yours is still good though, it sounds like you had the best time!!

9. I'm glad the storm had passed!
My daughter lives in Englewood and she told me the sky looked really bad and the storm was so loud, she was worried there was a tornado. She called back later to tell me that there had been tornadoes further north and, of course, I've since read about them.

Red Rocks is amazing! I've never been there for a concert (my daughter has) but I've been there in the spring and in the winter when it was covered with snow and I was still very impressed. I enjoyed the museum, too. I hope I get to go to a concert sometime. Too bad I missed The Beatles. ;)

14. i'm glad the weather held for the show
and we stayed in denver after the show, so we missed all the nasty weather in the northern part of the state (i live about an hour north of denver).

red rocks just amazes me, whether i'm there for a show or not. i hope you can make it for a show some day :D
