Poll question: Greatest DEBUT SINGLE of the 1950s?
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 06:47 PM by NightTrain
The following ten singles were all (as far as I know) the first-ever releases under each artist's name. Due to space limitations, I decided only to include '50s acts who transcended "one-hit wonder" status, hence the exclusion of such excellent debuts as "Sh-Boom" by the Chords and "Get A Job" by the Silhouettes.

Now let's get to votin', y'all!

1. Was "Rock Around the Clock"
The debut single for Haley? If so, it would have to get my vote. Kinda got this whole thing started, really.

6. did any known Brit bands ever mention listen to his work?
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 08:29 PM by cosmicdot
that would be interesting if someone knew of that

I sure don't, but wish I did.

:)

I voted for Maybelline and Chuck Berry ... just an instinct between Elvis and James Brown ...

the Brits have always seemed to be out there ... I wonder if they were influencing Americans in this time period?

7. His earliest recordings were on RCA from 1951-53...

...and frankly, they were nothing special. It wasn't until Little Richard got to Specialty Records in 1955 that he truly found his voice.
