Caustic comments get girls a date (certain people might be offended)
to those who continue to deny that we're wired differently: please don't read this; it will upset you.

The research shows that when women are at the most fertile point in their monthly cycle they tend to have a lower opinion of other women's looks1. And that's not just because of mood swings. Menstrual phase had no effect on how the same women rated the looks of men, reports Maryanne Fisher of York University in Toronto, Canada.

Fisher asked 57 women and 47 men to look at pictures of female and male faces, and rate their attractiveness on a seven-point scale from 'extremely unattractive' to 'extremely attractive'.

Whereas the men were fairly consistent in their voting, the women's votes were slightly, but significantly, affected by the stage of their menstrual cycle. Women about two or three weeks past the first day of their most recent period rated females about half a point lower than women at other points in their cycle.

"A lot of feminists don't want to admit it, but I think there's a lot of competition between women," says Charles Crawford, an evolutionary psychologist at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada. It's natural that this competition should be strongest when fertility is at a peak, he adds.

7. I didn't mean that..
men compete at least as much as women...just in different ways...
ie: men try to look good for women..women (IMO)frequently try to look good more to compete with other women than to attract men...

Understand the difference?

I agree that men and women are wired differently.

I'm a feminist because I believe that even though there may be genetic and biological differences between us that doesn't mean women should be paid less for doing the same job, have fewer opportunities available to them or is more suited for scrubbing the toilet and doing the laundry.

On edit: I really appreciate the fact that you've decided to embrace your feminine side. :-)

15. Amen, prolesunited.
There's been an awful lot of what George Lakoff would (tactfully) call "reframing" (and I, less tactfully, would call "highjacking") of the term "feminist" in the last 20 years or so. Feminism was never supposed to be about arguing that males and females were *exactly* the same (what kind of stupid-assed argument would that be?! -- guys, you're *never* going to understand why my belly is making me so cranky tonight!); it was about *stopping discrimination and harrassment against females,* on the grounds that they *are* females.

That means primarily admitting that some biological differences occur, one has to also be careful not to fall into the sort of Shockley-ite arguments that "Bell Curve" apologists make about people of different skin colours (ie. that blacks are inherently inferior to whites, simply because they're black, and, by using biased numbers and hand-picked statistics, they'll be happy to "prove" it to you), only along sex or gender lines.

Personally, regarding this study, I'd like to see the methodology, because "rating" people's attractiveness is so damn subjective anyway (just being in a good/bad mood could change the scores by a statistically significant amount, for instance), and I'm also not inclined to trust the motivations of someone who can't be bothered to properly define "feminist."

....on his radio puke fest.

He'll gleefully cite any scientific study that contain the words: "A lot of feminists don't want to admit it".

private_ryan heard it as well.

I know I certainly would be embarrassed if I posted something here that Limbaugh was using to indoctrinate his misogynistic followers.

16. if Rush Limbaugh reads an article that
says that the sky is blue, should anyone be embarrassed to post it here or anywhere? I didn't hear it in his show by the way. Turned radio off long time ago.
