Even minor-league is tough. The then-expansion Senators ruined pro hockey in New Haven by making their new affiliate (after the Rangers dumped them in favor of Binghamton) change its name from "Nighthawks" to "Senators", then doubling the ticket prices, then calling up anyone who could lace up a skate to Ottawa. The Elm City sunk down into the "Useless" League (UHL), with the Knights, only to see Bridgeport -- Bridgeport! -- build an arena 18 miles down the road, and snag the Islanders' AHL affiliate, the Sound Tigers.



Sound Tigers?! True, Bridgeport is located on Long Island Sound, but why "Tigers"?

Meanwhile, the Hartford Civic Center Shops have closed (though UConn still uses the arena on occasion), and the New Haven Coliseum has been demolished. Thanks a lot, guys! And oh yeah, Karmanos sucks!
