I've become what I hate
You know those people in the movie theaters that always ask stupid questions of their companion? Usually an older person who leans over and whispers (loudly) "Who's that guy?" or "Is she the girl he met in Marrakech?" or "Wait, who just shot who?"

Well, watched the Bourne Ultimatum last night - thankfully at home. I must've paused that fucker 20 times to ask my bf a stupid question. I had the same problem with the other Bourne movies.

Is it just me, or are they harder to follow than most movies? Maybe it's my pre-videogame brain, but I like my shots to last longer than half a second so I can see what's happening.

Oh, and it doesn't help that mumbling is now considered good acting.

3. LOL
You should see us watch BSG here. It takes 3 hours to get through an episode because I have NO idea what's going on.

15. That's why I stopped watching
When it got to where there were like 15,385 Boomers and only one wasn't a Cylon, I got all afused.

5. BSG, indeed - I'm constantly rewinding to catch something.
That show simply has no wasted moments or wasted words or wasted actions - it's absolutely one of the few shows that one cannot just listen to (most TV, I find, I can follow quite easily just by listening while I do dishes or other activity).

BSG, though - gotta stare straight at it with the subtitles on and the remote control in hand.

Fucking brilliant show, though - the difficulty is no complaint on my end. I'm glad for it.

7. More happens in the first 5 minutes of BSG than in most TV show episodes
And that is including the repeated intro.

4. I was the same way for Christopher Nolan's 'Batman Begins'
Edited on Mon May-19-08 10:08 AM by Richardo
Saw it in the theater and could not for the life of me figure out what the hell was going on. The cuts are SO fast.

Then we rented it last week and I could see that the fast cuts are to symbolize BWayne's own confusion/conflict, but still... it was not the deliberate, dreamlike pacing that I've come to expect from Nolan.

(PS: I liked it better the second time - we could replay the DVD to see/hear what we missed.

Sincerely,
Geezer in Houston

9. I hope they didn't spend too much time
on the fight choreography for that movie. They zoomed in so close, you couldn't tell what was happening.

14. SoB Paul
Wing Chun
"phonebooth style"

I suspect they've closed in to catch the immediacy of that kind of fight.

"xin loi", but *I* had no trouble following it.

12. There it is. PVGS
I can't watch those movies where the longest shot is 3 seconds and the average is about 1 second.

11. I've attempted watching "The Bourne Identity" twice.
I just give up after awhile. I figure if I'm having that much trouble following it and it isn't even a classic, why bother.

And no, there's nothing wrong with my hearing!! And to think they give effing Oscars for "sound mixing" or some such shit!!

AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!

16. You're right about the editing

The action scenes are almost unwatchable, they're edited so fast. }(

17. Try watching
Syriana. Talk about a difficult movie to follow! I eventually caught up about a third of the way or so through it. I want to watch it again at home.

I think all many movies are pretty difficult to follow. I think they make them that way on purpose.
