Bush said it best when it comes to Same-Sex Marriages:
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 12:25 PM by LynneSin
"People need to be involved in this decision," Bush said. "Marriage ought to be defined by the people not by the courts

He's absolutely, positively 100% correct. People should be involved in the decision - the people who are deciding whether or not to make a lifetime commitment to one another in marriage, regardless of the sex of the couple getting married. Not the courts, including not the lawmakers in DC or the statehouses!!!

Marriage is a personal decision - Bush should mind his own business!!

1. I always thought der Gropenfuhrer said it best:
"Gay marriage is between a man and a woman."

2. As always he's using code words
"people need to be involved in the decision " is Republican code for Constitutional Amendment banning such marriages which can be used as a campaign wedge issue.

3. A majority of the people NOW oppose gay marriage.
But I think the reason for that is because the voices opposing gay marriage are the loudest. After all, WE weren't the ones screaming to amend the Constitution.

The people will come around on this. I think the SF weddings are a positive thing...when people see that the sky isn't going to fall or any of the "doomsday" scenarios the anti-gay marriage people are spinning...and see how ORDINARY gay people marrying is...the majority of the American people will come around.

4. Exactly.
Remember, there was a point in time when a majority of American citizens thought black people should be owned as property. Or that women should not be allowed to vote.

Hell, there was a time when REPUBLICANS freed the slaves, and DEMOCRATS fought to preserve that odious institution. In other words, the social ethic is malleable. And that means that one's particular prejudices should NEVER be Constitutionalized.

Eventually, gay marriages will be seen as no "weirder" than straight marriages. Until that day, we need to work together to ensure that the gay-bashers, the right-wingers, and the bigotocrats don't have the opportunity to write discrimination into the Constitution.

7. I think you are right. Who can see the joy in the faces of those people,

some of them old enough to be grandparents, who have waited who knows how long - without sharing their joy, and wishing them long life?

With all the horror and brutality that human beings are capable of, and with which we are surrounded and inundated constantly, it's a refreshing change to see a little love and happiness on the news!

5. Arnold said it better
"Gay marriage should be between a man and a woman." Honest to God, that is an accurate quote.
