Is Howard Dean the next Messiah???
Good Lord, over in GD the Dean Faithful, the True Believers, are going on about Dean being the next Clinton, that he will prove his political tactical/strategic genius when he goes up against Rove, etc. etc. ad infinitum ad nauseum.

Is this the Democratic Undergound or the Dean Underground? Whew! I had to come over to the Lounge for a drink (BARKEEP! IT'S AFTER 5:00! SET 'EM UP!) and to catch my breath!

3. I didn't even bother to go into that thread.
You cannot convince the people in that cult that Dean is not the smartest, handsomest, most truthful, TALLEST person they have ever imagined.

4. Actually, Dean's not that tall.
And he's only average looking, until he smiles.

5. Cult?
You're joking right? I find that offensive that you'd consider Dean believers brainwashed.

7. No
I like the guy, and refuse to bash a Dem unlike many DUers, but I'm worried....

Newsweek cover story:

Then there’s Tom Bevan, a 38-year-old former advertising executive from the Chicago area with a conservative bent. He wrote a $25 check to Dean last week after seeing him surge. “The further left he goes and the Democrats go, the better for my man Bush,” Bevan says. “Some of the more centrist candidates would present more of a challenge to a Republican.”

It’s hard to know how much company Bevan has, but the operational head of his party, a Mr. Karl Rove of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, agrees. At a Fourth of July parade in Washington, D.C., Rove saw a dozen “Deanyboppers” marching in their DEAN FOR AMERICA T shirts. “Heh, heh, heh. Yeah, that’s the one we want,” Rove said, according to a curbside bystander quoted in The Washington Post. “Come on, everybody! Go, Howard Dean!”

12. A college Dem warned about that very thing here
about 4 or 5 months ago. He said that the NH college Republicans were actively working FOR Dean there to knock Kerry out. He was shouted down as delusional.

I really do think hes as good as some of the others, now before you flame me, I am being realist here in a way, I think Kerry is better than him, and yes I know those votes but you know we have no idea about what Dean would have done and you know that, and Kucinich has no chance remember you all were once like we are now, we could be where you are now, soon I hope. If that happens I will be very impressed. So if you took offense I am sorry but I think we need revolutionary change and thats why I support Kucinich among other reasons. I dont hate Dean, I dont know, its really wordless for me to explain why I dont share the ethuasim many have for him.

to get chimpy out of the white house. Dean is a man of the people unlike Kerry and is the only candidate with a chance. Go Dean!

11. ok can you give me evidence to that
Dean said he at one time supporting upping Social Security to 70, even if it was 8 years ago, thats not a man of the people in my eyes, I also dont understand how he was a moderate governor who was pro business rather than pro labor but now is being proclaimed as the great left hero, I know some know that, but you know we need genuine change and frankly Dean wont do as much as Kucinich would, and please do NOT give me that unelectable nonsense, Dean was in that posistion a long time ago. I dont think hes McGovern but i think there are better alternatives to dean.

25. mr. kleeb goes to washington.
john knows the dealy, dean is not a man of the people... dean was raised a republican in rich suburbia, his foundation and history both politically and personally are not left, sure dean can be the next clinton and continue to support big multi-national corporations (which clinton did do) and the people, (of whom kucinich comes from) will continue to suffer...

it is a simple understanding, if one were to see politics as a representation of themselves and not an idea of what they have been told what is and is not electable... what is and is not electable is an idea to confuse the facts...

the facts stand for themselves and those facts tell me the only candidate running for president that will uphold the constitution and rectify the wrongs of a corporate government and give back the wealth of this nation to the people for whom it belongs to... to give each citizen the fullness of life , liberty and pursuit of happiness is dennis kucinich....

thank you john.

14. Mowing the astroturf
I wonder how much of this gushy stuff are posts by campaign operatives.

I think there is astroturf growing here at DU...and not only Dean...I suspect other candidates have their cheerleaders here too, that might be more than just average joe-blow forum junkies like the rest of us.

This is one reason i rarely go to that politics and campaigns thread..it seems like just a lot of astroturf thats posting.

17. See what I mean?
I knew when I posted this, just like planting kudzu, it would take off. I'm surprised there aren't 100+ posts. The Deanies are like, well, cultists, as somebody pointed out above. Dean is the only one who can win; he's our only hope; etc. etc. etc.

Maybe he is. Maybe he isn't. The primaries haven't even started yet. We'll see how much is astroturf and how much is real grass roots.

Bake

BTW, no bile necessary. I'm not anti-Dean (except for maybe on that Southern thing, see one of the hundreds of threads in GD). I'm just not sold on him yet. I COULD BE SOLD ON HIM; my mind is open. To tell you the truth, I haven't SEEN that much of him, and what I've seen, I didn't care for that much--he was stiff and sour. And I'm a politics JUNKIE, and I haven't seen that much of him. I've heard a lot ABOUT him, but I haven't heard HIM. And if I haven't heard him, I'm betting that neither has the vast electorate out there.

18. I Take Offense...
at being labelled as a cultist. Yes, I am a Dean supporter. No, I don't consider him the second coming of Christ. No, I don't think he's the only man who could beat Bush. and I sure as hell don't consider him the great left hero.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I freely admit that Dean is a moderate, a centrist, or however you want to say it. I also have said before (and will say again) that when it comes down to it, I'm more of an ABB supporter than a Dean supporter. I just happen to like Dean over the other candidates based on what I've seen and plan on voting for him in the primaries.

And it's not only the mislabeling of Dean supporters as cultists, as being obsessed or rabid, and the like, but also the Dean supporters who created that image and help keep it going that make me wary of saying things in support of Dean anywhere.

Hmm, on second thought, maybe I can't blame you...

20. If you support Dean, good for you!
You don't sound like a cult member. You sound like you came to your conclusion after careful consideration. To that I say again, Good for you! But just an observation, you don't sound like the majority of Deanies around here. And I'm basing that just on a few strolls through the GD Forum, where any mention of Dean brings out the cult and the threads quickly turn into flame wars.

Me? I'm still looking for a Democrat to lead us to the Promised Land.

"You knew when you posted this" that it was flamebait. If you are going to generalize and take Dean supporters to task, you should not act suprised when they respond in kind.

22. Dean supporters are an odd bunch...
Most of them are great to talk to, fun to debate (I like Kerry), and overall, just cool folks.
But there are a few really, really passionate people that take offense to anything that is said that is critical of Dean and instead bash Kerry/Kuchinic ( I know I spelled that wrong). But this isn't a trait limited to Dean supporters; I've noticed the same thing with die-hard Gore supporters. If you mention that maybe Gore isn't electable, suddenly the thread takes a flamming twist.
I just don't get how people can get personally offended when their canidate of choice is criticized- I mean, when Kerry is bashed, I don't act like it's a personal wrong against me
