Maddux to be a Cub again.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/baseball_usa_cubs_maddux

CHICAGO (AFP) - Four-time Cy Young Award winner Greg Maddux reportedly is on the verge of returning to the Chicago Cubs.

According to reports out of Atlanta and Chicago, the Braves pitcher has agreed to a two-year, 15 million-dollar deal.

Maddux, an eight-time All-Star who has finished in the top five of the Cy Young Award voting nine times, rejoins the team he broke into baseball's major leagues with in 1986.

He also gives the Cubs once of the sport's best rotations - one that features potential Cy Young Award winners Kerry Wood and Mark Prior.

The return of Maddux, who was 16-11 with a 3.96 ERA in 36 starts for the Atlanta Braves in 2003, should bring added excitement to Wrigley Field as he needs just 11 wins for 300 in his career.

2. They Were Never Even Interested
That was all Scott Boras trolling for a bigger deal. He basically made up the Yankees' interest to get Hendry to up the ante. Hendry appears to have called the bluff and wouldn't bid against himself.

Good for him, and welcome back Greg!

10. Yankees have no pitching?
Mussina, Brown, and Vazquez are GREAT starters, plus the yankees bullpen is much improved from last year!

14. You should know by now
That the Yankees have great pitching compared to most clubs, they have a terrific projected lineup, they will aqquire anything they need by the start of the season, and then anything they discover they are missing they will trade for by the deadline.

Personally, I think it is just fucking pathetic that the Yankees haven't won a World Series in the past few years.

18. I fell in love with baseball at Wrigley Field
It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and Greg Maddox was pitching. Cubs won and I believe Greg pitch a 2 hitter.

4. Hooray!
Favorite player back on my favorite team. This is good. I couldn't imagine Maddux going anywhere else at this point in his career.

6. Glad to seem him stay in the NL....
and as a Braves fan as well as a Maddux fan, I look forward to seeing him get his 300th win this year. Needs 11 more to get to 300, I think. And regarding his win total; Maddux, as long as he played for the Braves, was the guy who always used the 2nd team catcher. I read stats on the batting avg and other offensive stats differences between the #1 catcher and the #2 catcher......... and Maddux would probably won, on average, 2 additional games per season with the #1 catcher.

I'd love to see "Mad-dog" win 18 or 20, this year and next.

7. Welcome to DU
Watching Maddux on the Superstation was a great way to spend a quiet summer evening. He never took very long and his masterful control was something to behold. AND he got us a championship.

15. Nah...not with the Red, Pirates and Brewers in the same division.
The Cards aren't THAT bad - unless there are tons of injuries. :sigh:

The Cubbies are my NL team - got to see them play at Wrigley in '83 and fell in love. They will outpitch the NL with this line-up. No more 'curse'. :-)
