I visited a Bear Den today

Hey I live in Maine, this kind of thing is actually considered 'fun' ;-)

This is my second year actuallly. As a member of Maine's Inland Fish and Wildlife Comm. I get invited every year to see how Maine biologists track female bear and their cubs. They put mama to sleep w/a mild sedative even though she's already hibernating- (they just put her into a deeper sleep). Then they take out the babies, weigh and tag them. Mama gets weighed and is given an overall physical too just make sure she's ok.

This time she weighed 164lbs and had only 1 yearling w/her. The biolgists seemed visibly disappointed since they knew she had originally given birth to 3. The yearling weighed weighed 41 lbs but felt much heavier. I guess we'll never know what happened to the other babies.

BTW The males they (the biologists) said, are 3 times or more her weight even at this time of the year. (Mama's I mean)

I visited a den last year. (Not related to this one) Mom was only 146lbs there and had 2 fairly newborn (November) cubs. Neither of the babies weighed more then 2 lbs. Holding those babies was alot of fun and it was hard to tear them away since their claws were already so sharp they felt like velcro.

I'm sure this thread will sink like a stone. It's just got that "blah" tone to it. But :hi: anyway!

I'll never forget how I and a couple of friends accidentally ended up in one in San Francisco. We had origianlly stopped for a pee break after shopping but had SO much fun we closed the place.

But I digress. How'd I get from Maine Bear Dens to SF Gay bars? : shrug:

I'm sure there many gay bars called "The Bear Den". Bears, in gay parlance, are large hairy men. They have quite a following.

As a large hairy man, I'm just glad as hell my bf is a bear lover :)
