1. U2 - Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URqcVTp4zO4
You're dangerous 'cause you're honest
You're dangerous, you don't know what you want
Well you left my heart empty as a vacant lot
For any spirit to haunt

Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey

You're an accident waiting to happen
You're a piece of glass left in a beach
Well you tell me things I know you're not supposed to
Then you leave me just out of reach

Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey sha la la

Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea
Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna fall at the foot of thee

Well you stole it 'cause I needed the cash
And you killed it 'cause I wanted revenge
Well you lied to me 'cause I asked you to
Baby, can we still be friends

Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey sha la la

Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea
Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna fall at the foot of thee

Oh, the deeper I spin
Oh, the hunter will sin for your ivory skin
Took a drive in the dirty rain
To a place where the wind calls your name
Under the trees the river laughing at you and me
Hallelujah, heaven's white rose
The doors you open
I just can't close

Don't turn around, don't turn around again
Don't turn around, your gypsy heart
Don't turn around, don't turn around again
Don't turn around, and don't look back
Come on now love, don't you look back

Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea
Who's gonna taste your salt water kisses
Who's gonna take the place of me

Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna tame the heart of thee

28. I second that
I love them like icecream, but IMHO they never made a better ablum than 'The Unforgettable Fire,' and the eponymous song is the best of the bunch.

"Pride" is a strong second, though.

Honorable Mentions:
"Bad"
"One"
"All I Want Is You"

Funny this thread came up: I was watching 'U2 Go Home' just yesterday.

42. Truly a great album. Overshadowed by "Joshua Tree"...
... in time, but "UF" was the record that really blew my mind when it first came out. Sure, "War" was excellent and I played it relentlessly, but "UF" was the real turning point for the band, IMO, and I recently found myself listening to it again for the first time in some years. That's when I realized how great the title track was-- the production, the passion, the playing. All of it.

44. I couldn't agree more ...
Not to knock Joshua Tree, but I prefer the sound of UF much more. I think the Edge's guitar playing and his style really come to the forefront more in UF (with the possible exception of the opening to 'Where the Streets Have No Name'). I like the sound--it's nicely produced, but not over-produced, which I think JT suffers from at times.

Funny, I was looking for something else and found this review from Rolling Stone:

http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/u2/albums/album/87234/review/6067874/the_unforgettable_fire

Unfortunately, with The Unforgettable Fire, U2 flickers and nearly fades, its fire banked by a misconceived production strategy and occasional interludes of soggy, songless self-indulgence. This is not a "bad" album, but neither is it the irrefutable beauty the band's fans anticipated. What happened?

...

One would like to be able to summon praise for such well-intentioned tracks as "Pride (In the Name of Love)," which was inspired by Martin Luther King, and "MLK," which appropriates King's initials for its title. But "Pride" gets over only on the strength of its resounding beat (a U2 trademark) and big, droning bass line, not on the nobility of its lyrics, which are unremarkable.

...

The Unforgettable Fire seems to drone on and on, an endless flurry of chinkety guitar scratchings, state-of-the-art sound processing and the most mundane sort of lyrical imagery (barbed wire is a big concept).

Sometimes RS is so, so wrong.

45. If I had a nickel for every time "RS" was wrong...
...I'd be a wealthy man. Mind you, I'm talking about back when "RS" was still relevant. And yeah, they were that when they reviewed "UF."

"lyrics...unremarkable." What a joke. Bono may have turned into a caricature of himself somewhere along the line, but at the time of "UF," his lyrics were, well, unforgettably on fire, if I may.

32. That one is my favorite by them, too
I'm not sure what situation inspired its writing, but it held a lot of meaning for me at the time that it was getting played pretty heavily on the radio.

I also like "Pride (In the Name of Love)" and "With or Without You" quite a bit as well; but, admittedly, I know little by U2 beyond their singles, so there are probably a number of good ones I've never heard.
