Do you like horror/scary movies? What's your favorite?
I haven't been a big horror movie fan (though I like horror books) because I do not like the gory stuff for the most part. I do like to get scared though :-)

I recently watched "The Descent" very gory but scary as hell. Did anyone see it? I think it's odd that American audiences got a completely different ending.

My all time favorite scary movie = "The Birds"

different zombies, they don't follow the same zombie rules as the Romero type so some people think they don't count. I love the running dead though, no matter what!

which got out the labs. It takes about 5 seconds to convert if you're infected, and you just run around at top speed killing everything not infected.

I like to be on the edge of my seat, and I like plot twists. "Misery" was another good one. For some reason, I have enjoyed the "Final Destination" movies as well, even though you know pretty much everyone is going to die, the when and how are at play.

The copyright has lapsed for some reason, so it's in the public domain now. One of the greatest thriller/horror films. And I don't even like or watch horror films, yet I still like this one.

9. Dawn of the Dead
both the old version and the new version. Zombie purists insist the 1st one is better (you know how tedious people can be) but the 2004 remake was the one I saw first and I love it, both of them! It is not the spooky kind of scary though, more the gory/action kind. The Night of the Living Dead (1968 I think) is great too! It is more creepy and suspenseful.
And get Rosemary's Baby!
And maybe two from the 1920's- Nosferatu and The Golem.

ok I stop! :bounce: :bounce:

40. Not only the best horror film, the best American-made film, period.
There are so many things going on in "Psycho" all at the same time that it stands up to repeated viewings without losing anything. Brilliant script, acting, camera work, editing, background music, all of it coalesces perfectly into one unforgettable depiction of the sleazy, perverted underside of "polite," placid American society. My pick for the best film to come out of Hollywood, period. (Although only #8 or 9 on my list of all time greatest films worldwide).

36. I loved The Mist...
Had no idea what to expect. Great movie though. If they had marketed it like what it was, which was an old school monster movie with a lot of political subtext like they had in the 50's and 60's then it might have done better. I liked the ending too, even though I was in the minority in liking it and even though I saw it coming a mile away.

I would have to put "Silence of the Lambs" at the top of my list - it's a good mind screw.

I'm a huge fan of Alfred Hitchcock - "Psycho", "The Birds", "Rear Window", "Vertigo" to name a few.

"The Exorcist - Director's Cut" kinda freaked me out.

Loved the first "Scream" movie.

As for horror films, the "Saw" series is by far the best I've ever seen. Psychological thriller/gorefest combo. :)

26. Love them....
Prefer the supernatural/ghost stories...like The Others, Sixth Sense, Ghost Story, The Shining...just a few.

I like the gory ones, too, except some really go over the top...like The Hills Have Eyes. Very disturbing. Hostel II was also super gory, but I ended up laughing at the end because it was so ridiculous. The kids kicking the object I won't mention at the end did it for me and all I could do was laugh.

For a funny horror flick, watch Slithers. Very entertaining.

I totally agree with that and have to vote for The Haunting (original only) and an old Ray Milland ghost movie called The Uninvited. It is very atmospheric and has a real surprise ending.

without some jackass self important boob lecturing you about how "there are so many horrors in real life how can you watch that type of thing...wah...wah...wah"

Every time I've ever started a horror thread of any sort no matter how innocuous that ends up happening within 2-3 posts and I've seen it happen to other people's threads as well.

But I digress:

The Descent was awesome. I'm a big fan of 70's horror. The Omen, The Excorcist, The Brood, Rosemary's Baby, Texas Chainsaw

I also like a lot of cheesy 80's slashers although strangely enough, torture in movies really bothers me and I can't watch it.

I'm a fan of most Zombie movies. The Dawn of the Dead remake was great as were both 28 Days Later and the sequel.

And the Birds is a favorite. A true classic.

Yes there was some torture but for whatever reason I was still able to enjoy it. Very scary, very creepy. The characters (including the psycho) seemed believable to me whereas in a lot of other torture type movies they do not.

I actually forget which ending was which, but I think I enjoyed both of them. Neither one really ruined the movie for me.

54. I only saw one ending. ***SPOILERS **
The one when she is driving away in the truck, stops by the side of the road and turns a few minutes later to see Juno in the seat next to her. To me this could be intepreted as hallucinating Juno but getting out of the cave alive.

In the original ending, which I didn't see, after she hits her head in the cave she hallucinates that she got out but at the very end she wakes up and is still in the cave and you can hear the creatures screaming.

Maybe I would like the second version but I prefer happy endings even in horror films :-)

I thought Wolf Creek was very realistic, maybe too much so.

I was doing a lot of "3 To 5 Shows" at the local high school radio station around the time I saw that movie.

It was already getting dark earlier in the day and I was staying later than 5:00 PM a lot during that time to play more punk rock onto the radio station after hours.

When I saw the scene where Leatherface was sawing through the door to the radio station and the girl was screaming, it really freaked me out.

I guess I'm angry and intrigued by real and systematic violence against real people.

Threads, a movie that deals with a nuclear attack and it after effects on Sheffield, England is the most harrowing movie I've ever seen, (outside of the movie Stalingrad, which is just heavy and depressing as hell). Trust me when I say it makes The Day After look like a Disney movie.

Edited on Sat May-10-08 07:08 AM by Forkboy
Both versions are great, but due to the special effects abilities (and budgets) Carpenter was able to follow the story it was based on, "Who Goes There?", far more than the original was able to. And it captures the psychological aspect far more as well. The paranoia is palpable.

I could watch either one any time, and I own Carpenter's version.

The Shining. Lots of flat-out scary scenes, but where the wife starts leafing through the manuscript of the "book" NICHOLSON has supposedly been typing, and all it says is "The swift brown fox..." over and over----------gave me CHILLS!1

And in one of the Hannibal movies, again forget all of the bloodcurdling scenes, but at the very end, where LECTER has escaped again, and is walking down a dusty (Carribean?) street, and his long coat billows slowly...---------GAVE ME CHILLS!1

Btw, why didn't Stephen KING like the movie version? I've tried sitting through his t.v. "faithful" version and CAN'T DO IT!1 It SUCKS!1
