Damn, I've got a nasty on my back!
I went for a physical this morning, and the doc found a funky mole on my right shoulder blade. She wants me to come back in an have the little bugger sent out for testing.

Apparently, as a pasty, freckled Irish guy, this is not a good thing.

Yikes.

1. Most likely it's nothing to worry about
from another pasty freckled Irish guy.

2. Hope you're right
Otherwise, the physical went as good as can be expected. Still have to lose weight, and I got a scrip for a proton pump inhibitor, but my blood pressure seems to be back to a reasonable level.

3. As a pasty, freckled Irish girl, I can relate
A few years ago my doctor noticed a mole on my back that was dark and asymetrical. So he took it off for biopsy. Turned out it was nothing back, a large piece of dandruff is how he described it. But now the spot on my back itches like crazy at times. Apparently that's normal too - just to warn you.

4. Best to get it checked early.
I am a pasty Irish woman. I do know from scary moles. My grandmother died 48 years ago of malignant melanoma.

6. good luck
I had it a couple years back when a mole got a red ring etc some sign of something bad so they told me. It ended up that I had stretched it somehow and that was causing the color change but they cut it off and it was benign? best to ya-

7. Thanks!
I'm going back in to have the thing removed and checked in a week or two.

I didn't even realize it was back there.

8. I just went through that.
It it is malignant, but was caught at a pre-cancer stage, now it is not deep in the skin,so I have to go back and get more cut out.

The actual removal of my moles wasn't bad, he took a razor blade and scooped them out. My results came back in less than a week, so it wasn't too bad, except my back looks like I was just plugged into the Matrix.

Doc said I must have been burned bad as a young child, and having light skin and green or blue eyes can add to your risk.

Catching it early is the important thing. It sounds like you get physicals frequently, so if it is anything, you probably caught it really early.

Good luck to you, and please know you're not alone here.
