4. Then I hope you never need to have it done.
I also hope you don't disparage people who are brave enough to have it done. It may be embarrassing, but it saves some people's lives.

6. If my Mother had gone for a colonoscopy earlier in life
she might still be with us today.

So, don't have a camera stuck up your butt, ... it's your life.

30. No dinner, but yes, a drink. Many drinks.
Fasting and drinking really horrible concoctions are part of the prep. I guess you could call it foreplay. But it's worse than the actual camera work.

Last time, the camera work was accompanied by some very fine drugs :)

19. The swallowed 'pill' camera. Its done frequently, but someone has to find it when it comes out..
Colonoscopy is still the gold standard.

25. Yes, but if they find something, they have to do the
invasive procedure anyway and people almost always get polyps after a certain age. So the docs still rely heavily on the invasive tests. Plus the clean out procedures have to be done regardless of which procedure is used.

15. I've had a colonoscopy.
It's not that bad as long as you're out. Apparently I kept metabolizing the drugs really fast, and the doctor had to give the dosage of a drug addict to keep me out. It really wasn't that bad, and I had no lingering side effects.

20. If you want something to dread, a prostate biopsy will trump a colonoscopy any day.
I'm getting it done, tears streaming down my face. The urologist telling me I have to try to relax with the ultrasound wand up my nether regions. And he's asking about how the football team it going to do.

21. I had a colonoscopy in my early 20s...
it wasn't bad at all, and I'm the biggest pain wuss there is. :)

In fact, it was ten times worse getting my wisdom teeth out. Oral surgery is something I never, ever want to undergo ever again. :scared: :scared:

22. From what I've heard, the procedure itself isn't half as bad as the preparation for it
Meaning that the bowels must be completely emptied before the camera makes its journey. Have a book handy, because you'll be on the throne for a while.

26. A good friend died recently from colon cancer and her words haunt me..
she said - "Please have a colonoscopy, I should have done it and ignored the symptoms and now I'm dying."

She was a wonderful person, a great mother of two boys and is now dead cuz she didn't

want a "camera stuck up her ass".

Her words really haunted me and I had a colonoscopy three months after she died - it really wasn't all that bad

While it was happening I remember thinking "Wow. I'm totally awake. I'm going to remember all of this" while watching "myself" on the monitor. It lasted a looooong time, but now I can only remember it lasting a few seconds.

Fentenyl is crazy.

33. I suppose I felt that way. Til my 46 year old friend died of colon cancer.
I'm sure she would have had the exam had she even thought it might be a reality for her. She found out about the cancer when it was too late.

Not a fun prospect, but I'm sure they use tinier cameras than the one you posted! ;)

35. Ironically, those are often the two choices.
You know, that is not the camera they use. Anyway, the patient is so drugged up s/he doesn't mind it at all. The hard part is the night before with the gallon of that super-Gatorade one has to drink. The actually procedure is easy.

I'm 52. I know I need to have it done, but it is easy to put it off.

Thanks for the reminder.
