I'm prepping for surgery tomorrow! Ask me anything.
Having hernia repair at 1:15pm EST, which might also involve removal of some of the intestine--ick. Right now I'm in the midst of drinking 3-4 liters of "Colyte" solution to clean everything out. Not very fun, trust me.

1. If you've already started drinking the Colyte then
exactly how long do you expect to be able to answer our questions?

sitting with her laptop in the bathroom! :)

Sorry about the surgery! My daughter had hernia surgery when she was three months old. She assures me you won't remember a thing! :)

3. I would say "Break a leg" on it...
But, then again, that's the whole point...you don't NEED anything else to have to be operated on, right!? :eyes:

Seriously, though, SCOUT, I'm pulling for you to make it through just fine, and I know you're gonna do that, too! :D

B-)

10. thanks
this is the second repair of the same hernia ... I should take a zipper with me to surgery and ask the doc to install it, in case there's a next time.

11. I hope not!
I teased the doctor last time, "geez, I thought you guys could do surgery on nerves and blood vessels and stuff, but you have to shave my pubes which are about 5 inches away from the incision?"

7. I put instant
tea in my colyte and then it was still pukey. That has to be the worst tasting stuff I have ever drunk. Good Luck!

14. second worst tasting...imho
the first-worst was the stuff they gave me in the ER prior to a ct scan.

what flavor did you try? I'm using lemon-lime, it's still nasty.

24. Now that you mention it
lemon-lime sounds better than instant tea. I wonder if it would be better just to not eat anything for 3 days before surgery.

27. I'd rather do that
I'd rather go without eating an extra day (no solid food since last night anyway) than to have to drink this stuff. I'm about 1/3 done with it, I'm going to try to "cheat" and drink extra water in between gulps and in between glasses of the colyte. Then maybe I'll be "in the clear" so to speak without having to drink the whole jug of colyte.

8. Ugh! I hate that stuff!
Are you scared? I have to have a similar surgery, for hiatal hernia, but not until certain other issues are resolved. Have you ever had surgery before?

Yuck! I'm so sorry you have to drink that stuff. I'm guessing its similar to what I had to drink for my colonoscopy. Drinking that crap was way worse than the procedure. I hope the same is true for your surgery.

Good Luck!

15. not scared
I've had surgery before, and I'm lucky I don't have reactions to the anesthesia or anything. Worst that has happened was that I vomitted in the post-op recovery process. They always wake you up and make you drink juice/water and eat cookies, so they can give you pain med pills.

I have confidence in him. I feel ok when talking to him, he answers questions without making me feel stupid. He seems about my age, kind of an outdoorsy guy.

28. thanks
I'm pretty sure everything will come out fine. My husband's home from work now, to commiserate, and he's taking me to surgery tomorrow. He does a very good job of taking care of me. I've been very healthy all my life, until last year in Feb. I had foot surgery, appendectomy, and then in October hernia repair, now hernia repair again!!!
