Grocery Store Outlets - do you have one near you?
http://www.sharpshopper.net/

They opened one of these near my parent's house and the prices in there are fricking amazing. Everything I've found has been within the expiration date but the prices are way lower than regular stores.

I guess with the rising costs, the main grocery stores are dumping their unused products into outlets instead of food banks (which is sad). But for families on a tight budget you can make a killing in this store with grocery shopping although you never know from one week to the next if you'll find the same products in there.

A good example of what you'll find is products that were labelled for a promotion or holiday that has long passed. I was at the store back in March and my stepfather bought some crackers that had 'Transformers' on the box. Well 'Transformers' came out like 10 months earlier but the crackers still had 5 months left on expiration date.

If you live in Central PA there are several of the Sharp Shopper stores in the area and even one in Virginia. Personally, I think the prices are worth driving an extra 10-20 miles to get there even with today's gas prices.

1. We had one for two years, but it went bust.
I never did find out what happened to "The Bargain Bin."

Now that it's gone, I worry about the families who depended on it.

2. On the west coast, we have "Grocery Outlet"
http://www.groceryoutlets.com/

You can find some decent deals there. Best of all is when they get some organic products in, for a lot less than they would be priced elsewhere. Downside is that they get different stuff in all the time, so don't expect to find any one item there next time you go.

3. They have Cascade Organic products at our store
I told my mom to pick up the Blueberry Jam if she finds it. It was 99cents a jar - which is much cheaper than store brand at the regular grocery stores

4. One tip I've found with them
If you chit chat with the employees, you can find out what products get delivered on what days, and plan around that. I go on the day that the refrigerated stuff comes in, because two of the products I save the most on there are soy milk and non-dairy margarine.
