Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 01:38 PM by Superfly
"Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, and why we died. All that matters is that today, two stood against many. Valor pleases you, so grant me this one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, the HELL with you!

13. Odin
"From the hall of Heaven he rode away
To Lidskialf, and sate upon his throne,
The mount, from whence his eye surveys the world.
And far from Heaven he turned his shining orbs
To look on Midgard, and the earth, and men."
--Baldr Dead

Fenris is the demonic wolf spawn of Loki and the giantess Angur-boda. He is the personification of hatred and evil. He was bound by Odin and Tyr, who lost his hand to the beast. At Ragnarok, Fenris will become unbound and will kill Odin.

25. Hey, you left out the Goddesses!
Brigid, of course (she was a goddess before she was Saint Bridget). The Morrigan comes in handy when things get tough. When things get really rough, Kali & the Red Taras of Tibet have a way of cutting through illusion--also, the vital parts of enemies.

And, of course, it's always unwise to neglect Mamzelle Erzulie.

27. I had to go with The Great Spirit
Although a practicing Christian because I believe Jesus was an imprtant teacher, I know that my human mind could only begin to conceptualize a small glimmer of what "God" actually is and I think Christianity itself only gives part of the picture, sometimes getting too wrapped up in dogma to see the forest for the trees. I believe, though in a spirit or universal energy of goodness that we can choose to be a part of or let guide us in a sense. One could call that God, or many other things, but I think it's probably much more really.

33. Ninkasi
http://www.anchorbrewing.com/beers/ninkasi_hymn.htm

Hymn to Ninkasi

Borne of the flowing water (...)
Tenderly cared for by the Ninhursag,
Borne of the flowing water (...)
Tenderly cared for by the Ninhursag,
Having founded your town by the sacred lake,
She finished its great walls for you,
Ninkasi, having founded your town by the sacred lake,
She finished its great walls for you.

Your father is Enki, Lord Nidimmud,
Your mother is Ninti, the queen of the sacred lake,
Ninkasi, Your father is Enki, Lord Nidimmud,
Your mother is Ninti, the queen of the sacred lake.

You are the one who handles the dough,
with a big shovel,
Mixing in a pit, the bappir with sweet aromatics,
Ninkasi, You are the one who handles
the dough, with a big shovel,
Mixing in a pit, the bappir with -honey.

You are the one who bakes the bappir
in the big oven,
Puts in order the piles of hulled grains,
Ninkasi, you are the one who bakes
the bappir in the big oven,
Puts in order the piles of hulled grains,

You are the one who waters the malt
set on the ground,
The noble dogs keep away even the potentates,
Ninkasi, you are the one who waters the malt
set on the ground,
The noble dogs keep away even the potentates.

You are the one who soaks the malt in a jar
The waves rise, the waves fall.
Ninkasi, you are the one who soaks
the malt in a jar
The waves rise, the waves fall.

You are the one who spreads the cooked
mash on large reed mats,
Coolness overcomes.
Ninkasi, you are the one who spreads
the cooked mash on large reed mats,
Coolness overcomes.

You are the one who holds with both hands
the great sweet wort,
Brewing with honey and wine
(You the sweet wort to the vessel)
Ninkasi, (...)
(You the sweet wort to the vessel).

The filtering vat, which makes
a pleasant sound,
You place appropriately on
a large collector vat.
Ninkasi, the filtering vat,
which makes a pleasant sound,
You place appropriately on
a large collector vat.

When you pour out the filtered beer
of the collector vat,
It is the onrush of
Tigris and Euphrates.
Ninkasi, you are the one who pours out the
filtered beer of the collector vat,
It is the onrush of
Tigris and Euphrates.
