Do you watch old episodes of Babylon 5 and Star Trek again
Edited on Fri May-02-08 08:22 PM by UndertheOcean
and other SciFi shows that you used to enjoy in school and college.

Do you watch those now and feel you are too mature to be engaged , that they are silly and unsubstantial. with no artistic merit whatsoever.

The only ones that still satisfy me are kubriks 2001 space odyssey and tarkovsky's solaris .

Maybe I'm an artsy fartsy pretentious type.

1. Yup
Loved Dr Who since 1978 (aged 6, though Colin Baker is technically "my Doctor")

Loved Trek TOS

Earlier Trek TNG (seasons 1-4) grew on me; even more since the DVD set prices came down... season 7 has some good moments too.

Babylon 5 is a show I got into a couple years ago; when the season sets were $20 each. Still love it.

Always loved Blake's 7 too.

I love the abstract creativity and structure in those series. Today's stuff is rather badly scribbled sci-fi that wallows in hyping up topical issues or laments in maudlin, sub-soap opera melodrama. The new WHO may be 4 years old, but it's aged far worse...

2. I recently watched the entire B5 series
I got it on DVD and had forgotten most of it, so I enjoyed seeing it all again. If anyone wants the B5 series, PM me.

I'll watch anything sci-fi, even the stupidest of the stupid - it's still better than regular TV.

3. How about 'Land of the Lost'?
Looks cheesy given the lack of budget, but to me it holds up very well despite it all.

4. I used to love watching Babylon 5 when it was on TV
:) I think if anything, it would be even more relevant now (President Clark, anyone?). Hell of a good show, IMO. :hi:

5. I have no Babylon 5 eps, but I probably would watch them again...
I thought the latter part of the series was just excellent.

I watch some of the TOS Trek, but I have a fondness for the other Trek series. I do watch those from time to time when the mood strikes.

What I have never gotten tired of is the original Twilight Zone series. Exceptional stuff. Love it!

I've never gotten into 2001 Space Oddyssey. Watched it once and it just didn't do all that much for me. I love Kubrik, but that one...nope, couldn't get into it.

Flame me now...I'm a bad science fiction fan.

6. Sort of...
There are some episodes of Star Trek: TOS are absolutely silly and ridiculous today. Then again, there are some that are still as brilliant and poignant as they were when they first aired 40 years ago. Same with TNG - some are silly, some are brilliant.

I'll still watch the silly episodes, but only in the way that somebody would watch Star Trek V - that they're so bad, they're fun to watch.
