Viking Burial Boat Found
how cool is THIS

<snip>

THE first Viking boat burial site ever discovered in England has been found by a pair of amateur treasure hunters using a metal detector, British reports said.

The duo uncovered a hoard of silver coins, fragments of swords and shields and other items from the late ninth century, notably some iron "clinch nails" which experts think were used to construct a Viking longboat, The Times said.

The location of the site in the Yorkshire region of northern England is being kept secret until it is properly excavated, with archaeologists believing it could be the burial site of an affluent warrior with his boat, the report said.

Although Viking boat burials have previously been uncovered in Scotland and Ireland, this would be the first such find in England.

Viking Cool

Nordic Cool

Cold Even

I spent many years doing Native American research for a "Tribe" on their early history.

As a result I read the early Viking sagas passed down orally by the early Sagamen and then by monks until they were written down in Icelandic in the 13h century and then finally tranlstated into English in the 19th century (about 150 years ago - relatively recently in historic terms).

I read the earliest translations - circa 1850.

Amazing tales.

Clearly the Vikings were HERE (Eastern Unioted States) and had lots of contact with the Native people. Words are similar and there are some burials (circa 1000 CA) around. They had Irish and Scottisgh slaves who ran out into the wilderness to bring back what they could find and they may even have had their first battle in the Boston harbor.

Most folks know I do political research. But I spent years researching Native/Colonial history and sociopolitical networks of the New England - New York (Ninnimmissinuok) coastal tribes from earliest contact to the present.

Colonial research to the present INCLUDES the ruling elites in New England.

Sigh

You have a nice ass Matcom!

Peace

4. Of course the Norse came over--the Irish told them how!
Seriously, I do find the stories & archeology of early European visitors quite fascinating.

3. Cool!
As much as they took over the little island for a time, it's hard to believe they didn't leave more behind.
