1. Well, we know who's buying the next round...
...think you can collect on the $526,000 bid?

You can sponsor DU for the next fifty years!

8. here is the kicker
If a business buys it, it can be written off as a "business expense." So in a way, we, the taxpayers, would be paying for it!

9. Don't be silly

If businesses couldn't write off expenses, there wuold be no businesses at all.

Imagine having $5,000,000 revenue from $4,600,000 worth of material, and having to pay taxes on the whole 5 million, instead of the 400K of profit. I'm thankful that business only has to pay tax on PROFIT not total revenue. (though I wish the Ken Lays would stop their shenanigans).

11. hold on, dude!
I have my own little business, too, and write off my home office, supplies and equipment and stuff like that...but should large corporations be able to write of tens of thousands for silly publicity stunts like buying Jenny's number or million dollar games???? It is fair for business to write off common expenses, IMHO, but not when they go too far.

3. I wonder how many of the big bidders are liars
and if this guy is gonna have to sort through the bid history when it's all done working his way down, until he finds a person willing to pay. I hope not - hopefully someone really, truly is willing to spend $500K on a phone number.

Pretty damn weird, though.

5. 500K on a phone number - wow
but, take a look at the statement at the bottom of the ad. To bid past 15k you must be qualified through credit card or some other system he lists. Those are real bids, someone is going to get paid.
