1. Good God........
If only for staying power. Elvis was great for about four years, if that.

4. I love the early Elvis-the Sun Studios stuff
that was the best of his work to me.
But James Brown got my vote in a heartbeat.

"Hotpants"!

11. I always disregard the artist's personal life from their work.
Always.
I go by what they put out as musicians.
Only the music.
Many artists are miserable human beings IMHO.

7. If Louis Armstrong was the most important and influential...

...American musical figure of the 20th century, then James Brown would have to be #2.

12. Pops was a great man
The first great soloist fronting a "Popular Music" band. Damn near invented 20th Century Pop Music. Played everything. Miles Davis, not one known to show respect, said that nobody plays anything that he hadn't played first. While I love "What a Wonderful World" It's kind of a pity that's all a lot of people know about him.

15. Godfather of Soul over the alleged King of Rock N Roll.
I have no respect for Elvis other than he inspired truly talented people such as the Beatles, Led Zep and Black Sabbath.

17. James Brown, hands down!
That band, to this day, is tight as a camel's arse in a sandstorm. 'Sides that, JB invented Rap.
