Anyone read "Falling In Place" by Ann Beattie?...
...I just finished it. Picked it up for $1 at a used-book store. I'd previously read her novel "Chilly Scenes of Winter," which I loved. "Falling" came out in 1980, and was set in about '78. I think Beattie is an amazing writer, but I don't know what she's up to now. The novel "Falling.." really took me back to the late '70s, when I was a kid, but even though Beattie writes very specifically about that time, the larger issues of love, loss, lies, family dynamics, etc. ring through loud and clear. I think Beattie writes circles around so many of today's so-called young literary giants. Her work is funny, poignant, and incredibly observant.
