Need cookbook recommendation
For my soon to be 19 year old daughter, just moved to another state, mostly vegetarian, she eats some fish.

She has no cooking experience (she refused to learn while at home) limited income so not a lot of fancy ingredients.

Any suggestions??

1. I would recommend
TASSAJARA COOKING
by Edward Espe Brown

Vegetarian Cook book that is fantastic for beginners. It is currently out of print but you can order it used from Amazon for like $2.00.

10. ANY of Molly Katzen's cookbooks are great!

Moosewood, Enchanted Broccoli Forest--any of them are just great for beginning vegetarian and omnivorian cooks. She's using basic ingredients and not requiring a lot of complicated techniques. VERY good cookbooks!

There is a cookbook out there called American Wholefoods Cuisine that is good too--it's by David and Nikki Goldbeck. Here is a link to some sample recipes:

What particularly impressed me about it is that they give you info on how to make up mixes for veg stuff that you can keep on hand and really cut down on prep time (which is a big issue for a lot of folks who would eat better if they only had "more time")

Enjoy!

Laura

8. Absolutely. JOC is a must have....
Vegetarian and carnivores alike need this book. It gives you all the basics, from how to make simple sauces to how to prepare a feast. It's all in there.

4. I would suggest the 'More with Less' cookbook; it's a wonderful book as
well as a cookbook. The recipes are from all over the world and highlight ways to use limited resources to provide good nutrition, and it is sprinkled with stories from missionaries/aid workers/others who have collected the recipes during their stays in these places.

5. May I suggest,
if your intention is to make sure she's eating well, a slow cooker (crockpot) and cookbook. Crockpots are great for those with no cooking experience and there are lots of great veggie recipes for them. You can get a decent slow cooker for around $20.

9. The Vegetarian Times cookbook.
Not only does it have great recipes, it has a big "how to" section for beginning cooks.
