Does anyone live in the Chelsea/Village area of NY?

I got a job at St Vincent Hosp, and I'm looking for somewhere to live.

1. That is a very expensive area to live in.

The only cheap housing you're likely to find is poor quality student housing. :(

You may need to look farther out near subway lines.

i don't have a lot of money to visit to look.

3. I used to but it was too long ago to be much help

It was 97-99 and I lived next to Tompkins Square park, & our rent was HUGE. We could only afford it because we had three people living in a two-room apartment. And now the rent's gone up, that was almost ten years ago.
It's cheaper if you go to Brooklyn or the upper west side but having roommates to help pay would still be good.
