I met my first nutty American freeper type on Saturday
A friend of my dad's he's a really funny guy. And quite nice, he's from Texas.

I thought I'd test the waters so I said, "So do you think old Bush is gonna get the old heave-ho?"

Then it was like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. He went into a rant on how if you vote democrats you're voting for immigrants, lazy people, and crooks to live off welfare and rah rha rah...the usual freeptard stuff.

It was a real shocker. I could tell it may end up in an un-friendly argument, and seeing as how it was my sister's wedding, I pulled the old, "Well, I'm gonna get another drink." Line.

I was telling my Dad and he kind of rolled his eyes and said, "He's very proud of picture he has of himslef and Bush senior."

The kicker is HE'S an immigrant.

4. Before 2000 I would have done the same thing
But after we let the Republicans roll over us in Florida I make it a point to go out of my to crap in their wheaties. I don't care how small the point, I put Republicans in their place.

3. Congratulations on your self-restraint
It was your sister's wedding after all, and though it would have been fun to put this hypocrite in his place, you did the right thing by not adding to the hostility.

5. I agree with RegularBrad
Your sister's wedding was neither the time nor the place for a heated argument. I know that it must have been tempting, but you handled it very well. My mother has the same reaction whenever Bush* is mentioned and she goes after me. I've learned not to get into it with her, since she just won't listen, but it's hard not to lose your cool in the face of such nonsense.:grr:
