I'm back in Vancouver - and I don't wanna leave.
But, I have to. This blows.

The combo of my sister's wedding, then last night going for drinks with my closest friends has me wanting to STAY here as long as I can. I've had too nice a time I guess. It's going to really suck when I leave in a couple hours. Hopefully I'll get the job I have an interview for this afternoon. It's only a couple hours from Vancouver.

Anyway, that was me thinking out loud.

1. I appreciate your sentiments. I've been there 3 times.
If I ever had to leave the U.S. (like, if my son was in danger of getting drafted for another "war of choice"), Vancouver is probably No. 1 on my list.

Primeval forests, deep ocean waters, beautiful mountains, whales, eagles, etc., etc... all immediately surrounding one of the most cosmopolitan cities anywhere!

Are the Kitto Japanese barbeque restaurants still there?

5. Kitto is still there!
Hey HEyHEY, you should come back.

And, if the city isn't incentive enough, it looks as if I'll be relocating there after Labour Day!

7. Looks like we're selling our house on the Island...
...and relocating to the City. Having some marriage woes at the moment, the results of which remain to be seen, but either way, a home sale is in order...

9. I really want to move back. Have to work on the wife, though.
She seems like a committed Calgarian, unfortunately.

18. Hey, I'm an immigrant. I haven't gone through the complete re-education
yet. I am still clueless as to the appeal of the Royal Canadian Air Farce.

21. That knowledge does NOT come with Citizenship.
I don't know anyone under 60 who finds Air Farce even remotely appealing.

You are not alone.

13. Downtown...
We currently own a small loft near the Orpheum. My ideal scenario is that we buy the loft next to ours, and knock the wall out between them. Failing that, we'd probably sell and find a larger condo in the Yaletown or West End areas. When we sell out house, we'll have about $200K to play with, plus the value of the loft. That ain't alot to play with in Vancouver.

In the case of a divorce, on of us might keep the loft, but I think, in that case, I'd rent somewhere Downtown or Kits for a while and keep my relocation options open--I applied for a New Zealand work permit, and qualified for one.

Oh, and buy a 911 Turbo to transparently bolster my waning middle-aged libidic confidence.

Did I just say that?!

and invite some erstwhile DU'ers to move in and share the rent/mortgage. Bet you'll get a bunch of takers. :eyes:
