I just got my copy of Photoshop7 and I'm just not familiar with it's workings yet.

I was working on this pic: "freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bulger/seneca.jpg" Obviously, add www...

I resize the image to 44 x 44 (as per most peoples rec.)and the image is still 6k. I lower the resolution by half, size: 4k. Eventually had to covert it to a .gif, and now its all pixellated and looks like crap.

Any advice would be good.

6. You should be able to adjust the compression

without sacrificing too much resolution. Also, I reduced the image to 48X48 and it says the size is 6K in RAM, but the actual file size is 1K. Go ahead and reduce the size without messing with the resolution and see if it will upload.

Download IrfanView. It is freeware.

With this program, you can resize to whatever dimensions you want. You can also sharpen, enhance colors, and reduce file size.

I also used a little bit of MSPaint to do more exact tinkering on mine.

Like I said in my initial post, I just got Photo 7, and I am still working out the nuts and bolts. A buddy of mine gave me Fireworks. I may play around with that as well.

From the menu bar, click Image--Stretch/Skew. Remember to put the same percentage in both height and width.
