Can't believe I did this.
Got BabyMidlo a robo hamster yesterday. Always swore that I'd never do it because I had visions of the critter escaping and running under the bed, never to be seen again, except in a stinkifying death.

It's really, really cute, though, and BabyMidlo is just ecstatic, so I guess it was worth it.

Now, BoyMidlo wants a lizard or a gecko. God, I have a hard life. :eyes:

1. Leopard geckoes are adorable and really easy to care for
:) The two I have, who are now in my mother's care, have been alive for about 7 years now, and are super healthy little buggers

Here's a pic of one:

23. But it's a FRIENDLY lizard.
It'll take a week or two for them to get used to you enough not to be afraid of you, but once they do they're cuddly and friendly.

Just make sure you keep a lid on their food though, since they only like to eat live food. :) You don't want mealworms or crickets running loose around the house.

It's so darned little. BabyMidlo is being really good
about playing with her in the tub, (without water of course) because if she ever escaped, that would be the end.

Plus, we got her one of those roly poly balls and she seems to like going up and down the hall in it.

8. How fun - thankfully you got just one.....
When I was a kid my mom finally relented and got me a hamster, except that I wanted two of them.....you know we had 14 hamsters within 3 months. :eyes:

Little MB wants a snake :puke: *no offense to those who have snakes, it's just not my type of pet. I like my pets warm-blooded, furry and cuddly.

Thankfully the employee at PetsMart told her they would not sell me a snake until she is 12 - so I have 4 years to convince her that she wants something furry. Poor kid - she just wants an animal to like HER. All the pets in the house swarm around me and now the rat terrier has started to growl and snap at the kid when it approaches me :banghead:

10. I was thinking that we might need to get another one for this one
named Nibbles :eyes: to play with. Petco has them sorted by sex, so we'll see.

We originally went to get a dwarf hamster that the store had for adoption, but they are mean little suckers. This one doesn't bite, thankfully.

11. well they told me that they were both females
when I got my pair

I don't know if sexing techniques have improved since the 80's but I don't know that I would trust them on that.

One of mine bit all the time. The other was super sweet until the cat got him

RIP little Bucky.

12. Geckoes are considered good luck out here
we just have the common variety, not the leopard ones. Mine (not a pet, just wandered in) performs important bug-hunting services.

15. We had a pair of "female" hamsters
then we turned around and there were babies after babies...

they like to eat empty tp and paper towel rolls.

we had a chameleon (yuch)
boa
iguana
hedge hog
and some kind of turtle that loved to go outside
and of course dogs and cats
fish out of the wazoo
and I think there was a bird in there somewhere.... LOL

so
you got a lot of catching up to do!!!!

I am extremely rodentphobic. Mice/rats. OMG. :scared:

But, this little thing is kind of cute. For a rodent.

26. God, I went through such an array of rodent pets as a kid.
Mice, gerbils, hamsters, you name it. A wonderful rat in college and a few years after, when she finally passed away (Fiona was her name).

They're good pets for someone who can't quite make the commitment of a dog or cat (10 - 20 years) but still wants a little friend. No reason to be creeped out - they're so cute! :loveya:

(When I was a kid, my parents kept setting mousetraps--and I kept creeping around the house and springing them all late at night. Couldn't stand the thought of mice being hurt.)
