7. Yuk yuk
The overarching goal of the Republican Party is to get lower and middle class people to vote against their own economist interests.

9. Wrong
I'd call them uninformed, and just exactly the sort of person we need to welcome into our party. Instead of looking down on these people, we should be doing whatever we can to show them that they are voting with the wrong party.

Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 12:39 PM by rolodomo
I could tell him I was a rich Republican to get him to handover what little money he had to me? What would be the best way to do it? I know, I could complain about my interest income being taxed and ask him for a donation from his wages. Yep, that would do it.

25. I know a republican who is not rich
He is hard working, middle class. The nicest guy you would ever want to meet. He would give the shirt off his back even if were his last. He doesn't own guns, doesn't go to church on a regular basis, thinks abortion is wrong but doesn't think it's his right to stick his nose in other peoples' personal lives, and he doesn't bitch about paying income tax. :wow:.I am trying to understand why he claims the republican party as his own. OTOH, He's pissed at bush* about the Iraq war, the economy, deficits, jobloss. Says he won't be voting for bush this time, and is trying to decide which Democratic candidate he would be willing to vote for. Hasn't changed his voter registration yet, that I know .

30. Old style Republican
The simple argument of fiscal responsibility, minimal government and self determination was the bedrock of Republican philosophy and something even liberals could respect. There has always been an undercurrent of big business exploiting those values for their own gain, but today's neocons and religious fundamentalists have distorted the party's values beyond recognition. The main problem with the old style Republicans is they feel displaced. They are looking for someone who embraces their core values and are coming up empty. Even though they feel abandoned by their own party, they are reluctant to switch to the Democrats because they feel the Democrats still don't match up with these core values.
